Dad at 13

God, I wasn't even THINKING about the act of sex at that age! I don't know, but this just really shocked me. He's just so young! I can't get my head around it. He thought it would be a good idea? Seriously?!?!

What are your thoughts?

Bet you never thought your thread would lead to this! lol
Sorry, that was my bad...I fixed the link...but yeah.

I'm so gonna be stuck with serious thoughts all day as to why. And if I have kids, as to how to not have this happen.

My thought: Sick!

This boy, and the mother has totally ruined their life! I mean, he's like 13!!!! It's sick that he even has sex at his age!

Oh my dear God. I mean, seriously? And how on Earth are they going to support the child? I'm sure they all love the gitl, but surely love alone isn't enough to raise a kid.
And you can't exactly say that the grand parents are responsile parents, being unemployed and forgetting to tell your kids what could happen if you have unprotected sex. Agreed, the boy was young, but at least a 14/15 year old girl should be aware of stuff, right?

My heart goes out to them. They have no idea what lies ahead. They are essentially to children trying to raise a child.

apparently he's not the youngest though, they claim there was a 12 year old father in 1998.

uh... i cant even imagine how a kid at that age decides to have sex, much less knows what he's doing. but then again, when i was 14 my friend lost her virginity, which is still incredibly young. and my 14 year old mind couldn't wrap my head around it.

Personally, i waited until i was 19 and had a good head on my shoulders to have responsibility and understanding of the situation. But at 13 the consequences aren't apparent, you know?

agrees, and lovely banner :)
My housemate just bought the sun home. The kid looks about 8!

His father has nine kids of his own, which doesn't surprise me!

On another note: the mom is disgustingly unpretty.

Quoted for the truth.

& you can see where she's gelled her hair back in the picture. Classy!!

hahahah I know!
To me it´s all very tragic but for the sake of the baby I of course it ends well. And wow. That boy looks young. But first question is, so it´s The Sun. One can be certain the story is true?

No, no. It´s gonna be easy. See?

“I didn’t think about how we would afford it. I don’t really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10.”

We have five children already so it’s a big financial responsibility. The family live on benefits.

And it´s good to see the boy being responsible and thinking logically. And what about the girl? 15 (14 at the time?) and not knowing anything or willing to take the risk?

“I thought it would be good to have a baby.

“When I spoke to him he started crying. He said it was the first time he’d had sex, that he didn’t know what he was doing and of the complications that could come.

And still this wasn´t the "worst" example.

Britain’s youngest known father is Sean Stewart. He became a dad at 12 when the girl next door, 15-year-old Emma Webster, gave birth in Sharnbrook, Bedford, in 1998. They split six months later.

On another note: the mom is disgustingly unpretty.
That´s supposed to be funny or being relevant how?

neither, I'm just saying, if the 13 year old is going to have sex he's going to do it with that THING?
I couldn't see the article, but THIRTEEN? Seriously?! What is this world coming to?

Since the dawn of man, what we would class as children have been having children themselves.
Its nothing new.
I'm not in anyway condoning it BUT I am saying that the 'world is coming to' nothing unusual.
The human body has evolved to the point that they can have children at young ages so its natural.

I think 'sick' is an incorrect term.
Lets be quite honest this is experimentation that went wrong. Everybody experiments with sex just at different points in their lives (the first time being an experiment in and of itself). Yes these kids were young, but that doesn't make it sick.

And I also don't think its fair to say anyone has ruined their lives. These kids could easily, when the child has grown to a reasonable age of 5-7, go and get themselves jobs, college, university, careers and be the same ages as everyone else.

I am not condoning this I think these kids were lacking proper sex education, but I am not condeming them either for doing something natural - even at their age.
Kids are curious.

I have to say that the age difference is a bit odd and the the dad is unbelievably cute (he looks like a 7/8 year old himself) but that doesn't matter now.

I am pleased that there wasn't an abortion though. This could possibly be the making of both of them as it will teach them responsibility and such.

Not that I would ever want my kids to learn responsibility like that - a paper round will suffice!

Yeah that. I wanted to add something intelligent, but you've covered all I wanted to say.

Yeah, I was trying to be funnily curmudeonly. Guess I should have made that more obvious.

I have to agree with Al on pretty much every point.

My sister had my neice when she was 16...it wasn't sick and her world didn't end. Life went on becuase it had to. It isn't ideal and definitely not what my parents wanted but she still made a go at her life and my neice is possibly the most loved child on the planet.

Their age makes it harder but not impossible.

I dod have to wonder about the age difference tough. The girl is 15 and the boy is 13 (12 when the child was conceived). Even the picture of them looks very odd. he looks more like her baby brother than her boyfriend.

It is almost every post 'I agree with Al' 'I ever with Ed' 'I agree with EB' - not just you but others. Hehehe
Well, to be fair, I don't think the problem is teenagers in general having sex, it's teenagers without sex ed.

What really sort of stuns me in these stories (this one and the one mentioned at the end of the article, with the even younger Dad) is how the Dad is always so young and the girls are at least 2 years older. And this boy even looks like 8. This is probably not the point of the story, but girls, thinking back to that age when you were 14/15, would you have dated a 12-year-old?

Did anyone see the video that goes with the article? The boy got asked what they're gonna do, financially, and the boy went "what's financially?", the girl laughed. They are SO not ready for a child.

I agree. I know it may not be the point of the article, but that is what crossed my mind. At 14/15 anyone even a month younger than you is a child to be looked down upon.
Oh i was this on the daily mail 😉 its just...words can't express i'm just so puzzled!

Poor kid (the baby)

lol you HAVE to put the baby in parenthesis because if you didn't nobody would know who you were talking about.
I don't see it as being right, but it happens. I'm thirteen myself, and some girls in my year have been pregnant and had abortions, even back when we were eleven. It's not right, and it's never going to be right, but it happens. It's illegal to have sex under sixteen (Although, ya know, you all know that...), so it shouldn't happen, but it does. I'd never do it, and I don't think any of my friends would, either, but some people are stupid.

Actually, in the UK, thats a misconception.

It is illegal for someone over the age of 16 having sex with someone under 16.
Over 16 does not include 16 year olds either.
Also there is a law that under the age of 18, if the difference is more than a year THAT is illegal - the elder party being the person responsible thus liable for action.
In this case the 15 year old girl would be the one prosecuted BUT nothing will happen.
