I love that, I remember seeing the same thing a few years ago online, but it was with a crystal ball, I also had it explained to me as well, but I've forgotten how it works. It's something to do with probability cuz there's only a certain amount of symbols -right?
 
I didn't find it interesting. Is that my problem, or are you guilty of false advertising?

I guess it is my problem as other people seem to find it interesting.

The symbol i had btw was what looked like an "h" which is the first letter of my real name which was mildly interesting, they must be chinese symbols maybe..? Al i hope you don't keep us in suspense very long and tell us how it works..?

I didn't pick a number, and it gave me a symbol, so I'm going to guess it's something like this.

There are only a certain amount of answers it can possibly be. Many of those symbols are repeats. They simply put one symbol on all possible answers the math problem will allow.

The trick is when they tell you to concentrate on one symbol for ten seconds. They don't want you looking around to notice the repeat symbols.

You'll also notice the symbols on each number change. Every time you restart the trick. In this way, you'll always get a different symbol.
 
I've also seen this before on the web, but mine was a crystal ball too, I haven't a clue how it works!

OK, i'll tell you all how it is done.

I'd not seen this before, but i noticed there was a connection.
Its simple if you realise.

Take any 2 digit number, say 35.
Add the 3 to the 5 and take that from 35 which = 35 - 8 = 27.
This would give you a symbol.
OK, now say we choose a different number say 78.

78 - 15 = 63.

Do we see any connection yet?
No, ok, other numbers.

45 - 9 = 36
68 - 14 = 54

It becoming Clear yet?

so, the numbers so far are 27, 36, 54, 63......these numbers have one thing in common, yes, they are ALL multiples of 9.

Don't think thats it. OK, lets try all the numbers in the 30's

30 - 3 = 27
31 - 4 = 27
32 - 5 = 27
33 - 6 = 27
34 - 7 = 27
37 - 10 = 27
38 - 11 = 27
39 - 11 = 27

All the designer has to do is make sure to have the same Symbol on every multiple of 9 and it is guarenteed to pick the correct one you arrive at.
All the other symbols are so random that they make it look random.

Simple ain't it😉
 
Most mind reading magic is done by the magician knowing the answer to the question before he asks it, either through number tricks, sleight of hand or confederates.

The internet ones are pretty much always done with number tricks.

There's a classic one created by John Scarne, and stolen by David Blaine. You pick a card, think about it in your head. Scarne takes the deck and scatters it against a window. He tells you to grab the card, but you discover you can't. The card is on the other side of the window.

It seems unbelievable, until you know Scarne knew the card before you chose it. After that it's a simple matter of having a confederate stick the card to the other side of the window.

It took me about nine seconds to figure it out. It greatly irritates me when someone is shown something they don't understand, and instead of trying to figure it out they just ask for the answer.

Fire up some of those brain cells, children. You will be better for it.
 
this is a lot more amusing when you can do math properly and therefore come to the predicted conclusion, instead of an erroneous conclusion based upon poor poor math skills. I can't add and subtract. Its sad. I feel sad.
