Thor - Possible Spoilers.

I went and saw it this weekend. It was pretty good. A tad on the slow side but about what I expected. I imagine if the lead was unattractive, I probably would have found the movie quite boring.

I was disappointed with the depiction of Loki. Are we supposed to believe he's the "mischevious" brother? There weren't any instances of that. In fact, he seemed to be Thor's voice of reason the entire movie, save the ending. (Unless of course I'm interpreting their relationship wrong?)

Also, He didn't really do anything on earth did he? Other than trying to get his hammer back? The story was mostly made up of him in Asgard. He didnt even fight the big robot thing (the Destroyer?)

I loved, loved, LOVED how much SHIELD was in this movie. Agent Smith is adorable. I loved his line when he saw the Destroyer. The one agent says something like "Is that one of Starks?" and he says "I don't know. That guy never tells me anything." I liked, too, when Thor says something about them being on the same side and just as he fly away, Smith says "You need to be debriefed..."

The scene after the credits was the best so far. I love Nicky Fury. I know people are hoping he doesnt have a huge roll in The Avengers but I think if it's similar to his roll in XXX, it'll be perfect.

Anyone else have a chance to see it this weekend?

I loved the Stark line, everyone was probably thinking it haha!
I saw it last week and I really enjoyed it. I didn't expect it to be so witty and Hemsworth has surprisingly brilliant comic timing.

I can't really comment on how true it was to the comic characters as I've never read them (blasphemy, I know) but in terms of Loki I thought the way he would disappear and trick people with hologram...thingies... of himself was supposed to represent his "trickiness". Other than that, I agree with you that he provided a voice of reason for his brother. Although that was often undercut by his "evil" plans, so maybe that reason was to be seen as a trick too?

I watched this film to see if there would be any point in my seeing The Avengers next year because I really can't stand RDJ and couldn't sit through either Iron Man, so I was happy to find this enjoyable. And I fully expect to love Captain America, just from the premise alone.

P.S. DAMMIT! I didn't watch through the credits and missed the Fury seen. Grr Arrgh.

I suspect that, in playing Thor's "voice of reason," he was actually egging him on. I'm just starting The Poetic Edda, but as far as I can tell, Loki plays a very deep game in which his motivations are never quite clear to anyone.
 
I hate to say it, but I was a bit disappointed. I expected a bit more. I looked at some of the other choices to play Thor before Whedon stated who he wanted and I think they would have been better. I like Ray Stevenson but not as Volstagg. The whole thing seemed a bit too lite for me. I found there to be less drama than expected, as you never really had the hero in a situation in which you feared his safety, that created very little tension for me. I found Loki to be a bit weak. I pictured him to be more.. snickery. He showed it once or twice.

And I'm sorry, but the voices were all wrong. That is the one thing that held me up the most.. I expected much difference voices. Does anyone else know what I am talking about? or is it just me?

edit:
I should say that I went into it with unusually high expectations because I like Branagh. I usually only 'want to see' and not 'look forward to' I think if it were under another direction my expectations would not have been as high. Maybe I should downgrade Cptn America.

I had my usual problem with the accents. Thor, Odin, Loki, etc. are figures from Norse mythology. Why do they sound British? (I had the same question about Beowulf and Grendel and Troy.) All I can figure is that a) Hollywood is an idiot; b) nobody dared ask Anthony Hopkins to change his accent; and c) most people won't really care because British is exotic enough for them.

No, it wasnt the accent.. it was more.. tone. Their voices seemed.. just.. I dunno weak. I expected maybe more bass and less treble. They didnt sound like gods.

Haven't seen the movie (or read the comics), but as I am pretty familiar with the Edda, I can easily confirm that you've gotten Loki's nature right.

Mock-Nordic (Nordic) or other accents are a pet hate of mine. If the film isn't made in the language the actors are supposed to portray, they might as well sound like themselves. To me, the mock-German was the weakest part of "The Reader", for example.

I think it is C, upper class English has pretty much always been the default "foreign" accent of choice.

This is a huuuge pet peeve of mine! I saw a promo for The Borgias the other day (it's not a show that I'm watching) and when I heard the British accents I almost screamed: "WTF, they're Italian!!" Is Meryl Streep the only one in Hollywood who does accents these days?! It's like they're not even trying. Ugh. Even DB did a (terrible) Irish accent in Buffy/Angel, at least he tried.

Other than that, I loved the movie. You have to understand that I saw it with 3 little boys, so if they were happy, I'm happy. 🙂 And especially since it kept the 4 year old's attention for 2 entire hours, that's saying something! We really liked the special effects. Chris Hemsworth is hot as hell, just sayin'. I was seriously giggling along with Natalie Portman when he kissed her hand LOL. I wish they had chosen someone else other than Natalie Portman though for the female lead. I was not excited about her, haven't been ever since they announced her. I would've prefered someone not as famous. I liked the character of Sif; and Rene Russo looked gorgeous (when does she not).

As far as Loki goes, I simply don't know enough about the mythology or the comics to make a judgement on that. I simply didn't know which way he was going to go.

Loved the Stan Lee cameo. In fact, the only disappointing part of the movie for me is when I turned to my husband to say "That's Stan Lee!" and he said "Who's Stan Lee?". Total face-palm moment for me. You've been married to me for 12 years and you have to ask who Stan Lee is?! Of course he knew once I reminded him. Afterward my boys liked ticking off all the Stan Lee Marvel movie cameos they could remember.

Who was the archer? And was Selvig referring to Dr. Banner (The Hulk) when he mentioned a colleague who worked with gamma-rays? Loved the Stark reference (I caught the one in the Captain America preview as well). I agree with Kryptonite about Agent Coulson, he's awesome.

A question about the part after the credits: did Loki somehow take over Dr. Selvig's body or is Loki just appearing as Dr. Selvig? And what is this source of power they're talking about?
 
Im so glad they didn't try and do godly voices, I think that would have made it stupid.

I think it's like in smallville, we all want him in the cape, but once they do it it's gonna look kinda stupid and loose all it's appeal.

I loved Thor, I thought it was great!

I didnt mean it like cheesy over-the-top.. but.. they all sounded more like boys playing dress up.. at least to me it did.
