"I must respect the opinions of others even if I disagree with them." - Herbert Henry Lehman.

Respecting others' opinions is not always an easy task; but it is a necessary one. Making an effort to respect an opinion different than your own is not being untrue to your own personal beliefs and opinions; it's simply acknowledging that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and that they deserve respect.

People come from different backgrounds, different belief systems, and have experienced different things in life. We speak different languages, have different traditions, and are all different ages. All these things lead to varying viewpoints; which can and should make discussions more interesting and educational.

Remember, treating each others with respect even when you disagree can make the world a nicer place. Be tolerant of other opinions, try and see things from a different point of view, show consideration and kindness, don't mock or disrespect people because you are unable to understand where they are coming from. Doing all these things will not only enrich your own personal character, it will also help build up the Buffy Boards community.

"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." -Aristotle

Great job :)
It kind of reminds me of "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Kind of? I think? lol.

I love this thought for the day. It's one that slips passed me a lot. It's one I've really got to work on. I do generally respect people's right to have their opinions... but it's hard for me to respect that that opinion they have is valid to them just as my opinions are valid to me even if not to someone else.

It's just now occurred to me a saying I use for religion should also be applied here in daily life: "What works for one person, doesn't necessarily have to work for another." If I have a certain opinion and it works for me, it doesn't mean that this opinion will or should work for everyone.

Yes, that's always important. There are things that I really don't understand, opinion wise, but life would be so mind numbingly boring if we all thought the same way or had the same opinions. Also, debating is fun 😉

Personaly I don't think that I have problems with respecting other oppinions. It's just that I still have the desire to comment or discuss with somebody about his/her or mine oppinion if they are totally different. What not means that I don't respect other oppinions or that I want others to change theirs! But I love it when people have to think about the things they wrote/said because sometimes they condratict themselves. I do so too!

This is something I've put a lot of work into, in my personal life and on the internet. I usually try to think, like I do in every situation, that there is an actual person on there, and whatever opinion they have is what is right to them, and who am I to say what's right and wrong?

Everything is in the eye of the beholder, not just beauty.

I think what brinkster said about age is important. Not everyone on the internet that you're talking to is the same age as you are, so things that are important to them may not be important to you. It's hard sometimes, but we have to remember to allow others to have a discussion about something we might think is stupid without ridicule.

One of the most important things I read here in BB.
