Thoughts on Buffy vs. Dracula

To be honest, I never enjoyed Dracula until S8 where he was more fun, interesting and somewhat Spike-like. His dull, show-off persona in this episode didn't capture my interest.

I really enjoyed the Giles parts of this episode. I loved how Joss worked a believable way to make Giles stay, which is Buffy's need to learn more about her slayerhood. She wouldn't be able to achieve that without Giles.

Riley's confusion about Buffy's obsession with vampires and easily falling under their thrall is the first step in this season to his storyline of insecurity and inferiority. Poor guy. Really loved his scene with Spike in this episode. Wish we got a scene between Spike and Dracula, I know there's a comic out there that gives the story behind Dracula stealing Spike's money but I don't know its name. Before S8, I never read a comic book and never intended to read the Buffy ones pre-S8.

Dawn's first appearance was cleverly handled and it was a great WTF moment, I can picture how the fans thought that Joss lost it when he featured Dawn until we learn in episode five about the real reason behind Dawn's existence.

I thought old Dracula was pretty cool, I heard Freddie Prinze Junior Junior was going to play Dracs but pulled out 'cause he had to film for a movie, that would have been different, don't think I would have liked him if FPJ played him.

Yeah, bit of Freddie had taken the part, they would have had to call the episode "Buffy vs Dorkula."

For me this was the highlight of episode as well. I did not really care for Dracula overly much but I did not care because I was so happy to see BTVS back!!!

I love this episode, mainly because I love Vampires and I've got like 3 copies of Dracula the original book.

Yes it was campy, and all kinds of different but it was meant to be a fun stand alone episode to set up the Buffy character growth, so I just love it for the silly episode it is.

And the Spike part is explained in the Spike Vs. Dracula comic books.

Loved that first introduction, and how cool the Scoobies thought it was to be meeting Dracula. He was like a rock star vamp. 🙂

I thought it was pretty funny and campy. Not my favorite, but not my least favorite, either.

Most of all, I liked the way it set Buffy up with a need to explore her dark side. Like it or not, Buffy has a "thing" for vamps -- that "thing," of course, being a very innate, primal, vampire part of her vampire slayerness. Vamps and slayers kill each other. Like Buffy once said, that makes you close. I think Dracula, the Mac Daddy of all vamps, was the perfect character with which to explore that. Sure, he's got a fancy reputation and some neat tricks, but at the end of the day, he's just a vampire, and Buffy needs to learn what that means. It's a part of her, a part with which she and those around her need to come to terms in order to progress.

The first time I watched this episode, I never liked it. But everytime since I enjoy it more and more. I always seem to notice more and more funny lines and it's so funny all the way through. One of the best season 5 episodes.

Spike had PAYED, note payed since Spike never pays for anything, 11 quid for a signed copy of "Dracula" by Bram Stoker. Then Dracula threw Spike's book on a bonfire, and Spike won't forget that! He keeps insisting Dracula owes him money for the book..

It was a fun ep, but the actor playing Drac was not that good, blah. Terrible accent, blah. More emo-goth rock star than arch-villain, blah. I liked how he was able to feign dusting at the end, blah. Yeah, and the ending with the first appearance of Dawn was confusing, blah.

Oh yes, Xander was a great "Reinfield" to this Dark Prince.

lmao at him shoving Anya in the closet.

It was nice to see Rudolf Martin and SMG together again, nice throwback to their stint on All My Children.

However, make-up/wardrobe missed the mark with his look.

Dude looked ridiculous.

loved the scene with SMG and Anthony Stewart at the end, when Buffy asks Giles to be her Watcher again.

My one gripe is that there wasn't a scene with Spike and Dracula.

Ummmmmmmmmm anyone know who scored this eppy, loved the music.

Never knew how Dawn was introduced, it was quite random.
