Paris Hilton is being passed around the cell block for cigarettes, and apparently some people do care. I find the second part of that more interesting than the first.

Here's what I wonder about sometimes when I hear this kind of story on the news. Is it that we care, or is it that we're being told by the mainstream media we should care?
