Thread number 2 for us BB feminists! Let me run through this again:

This is a thread for BB feminists. Here we can discuss feminist topics in Btvs/Angel, share interesting feminist articles or just give each other feminist peptalk. Yay!

Note: This is NOT a thread for debating feminism as a ideology or state that you're not a feminist and give reasons why. If you want to do so I suggest you make a thread of your own. If you write here you have allready decided that you are a feminist and want to talk to people who share your views. Thank you for respecting this.

Here's my latest feminist find, Patrick Stewart aka Capten Jean-Luc Picard talking about domestic violence! (And not his "this is what a feminist looks like"-tshirt at the beginning!) My nerdy feminist heart almost couldn't take the happiness! 😀

I was listening to music the other day, and there's this part of Le Tigre's "Tres Bien" that just really got to me:

I'll push your work with my bare hands.
Because they will try to convince us that we have arrived,
That we are already there, that it has happened.
Because we need to live in the place where we are truly alive,
Present, safe, and accounted for.
Because we refuse to allow our writing, songs, art, activism
And political histories to be suppressed or stolen.

And I was just kinda like, wow. THIS is why I am a feminist and why I think feminism is really, really important. This is exactly why.

That's beautiful! I love le tigre!
What do you think of Maggie Walsh? I am currently enamoured with the idea of Maggie the bad guy. I wish she was the bad guy of the season.
 
I think Maggie Walsh would've made a great big bad! I could see her being a little like Sue Sylvester but with more power and less rudeness. 🙂 In general I wish we could've learned more about her character, it didn't have to be her being bad. I really liked the actor that played her, and she was obviously a strong and smart woman in many ways. Which is why I think Giles was threatned by her.
 
That Patrick Stewart video touched a chord with me, not least because when my aunt died last year, some of her children didn't go to her funeral because her second husband had been violent towards her and the children from her first marriage- and we're going back 30+ years. I think my uncle now understands what he did, and in the end they were together for a long time and happy, but then again he was brought up in an isolated community on an island where such things would have been tolerated in the 1930s and 1940s because it was thought that boys needed to be toughened up for life.

The trouble is, the last time I think we had a national anti-domestic violence campaign in this country, it was criticised because it fell into the trap of preaching to the majority of men who aren't abusers and made them feel guilty for the actions of a minority.
 
I really love Maggie Walsh! I wish we had learned more about her, especially more about why she created Adam and headed the Initiative program in the first place. I think that's infinitely more interesting than Adam himself.

I heard that Dr. Walsh was killed off because there were issues with the actress's contract or scheduling? If that's true, that's really unfortunate. I like Season 4 a lot, but I think she could've made the overall arc a lot stronger.

Yeah, he was involved in a brittish equality campain last year apparently! I found the video when I googled "this is what a feminist looks like" and found a pic of Patrick Stewart wearing a tshirt with those words! My heart almost stopped of joy! 😀 I think he makes a very good case, he's very good with words. I agree that the smoking campaigns argument makes a big impact!
