Ok. Let me start by saying i am undecided by this show. I watched the first two episodes on Sky One, 'Trees made of Glass', and i am torn.
The basic premise is a bit overused, Aiens, Earth, Secret US Department and Invasion, but i can forgive that. I mean who said a repeated idea was bad, we are on a page dedicated to one of the most overused mythical demon creatures ever, are we not. I also have to say, the effects were stunning. I was visually impressed.
What irritated me was the over the top Cliche moments.
The 'we have a Guy who believes a in God lets have the "funny"(i will be using those air quotes alot when i refer to the Ramsey character as funny, believe me) little man make a 'Star Trek/Religion joke'
Or the really crap set ups he has.
The Characters....ok
The introduction of Dr Molly Caffrey was ok, i liked her, ish, she was sexy and cool.
What i hated was the total 'we have 30 seconds to introduce three other leads, get the reason they are a apart of the team BUT also lets add why they will have conflict' Geez, i felt so patronized as a viewer in that then i would if Big Bird himself came up to me now and explained the gosh darned alphabet to me in the sesame street way.
The 'mercenary' Character, Sean 'I don't have a point in the show, other then carry a gun and obviously i am manly so i will be a possible romatic lead for the beautiful brilliant Doctor' Cavannaugh, really got on my wick.
Obviously the big tough man, shows his sensetive side by caring about Caffrey's 'dad issues'. Ok i can stomach this, but NOT during a field mission watching for the 'bad guy'.
Also, the fact he called up Caffrey during the night because he had a 'wickle dweam that scawed him' Puh-Lease....
The Pint-sized Professor Arthur Ramsey, what a joke and not in the 'i'm gonna laugh with you' kinda way.
What made his character worse was the way he was treated, It seemed so Fawlty Towers, but not in a hilarious 'I'm gonna make some comments, blame it on the Spanish worker-He IS from Barcelona, you know- then slap him on the back of the head' way.
'Dont mention he's small, I said it once but i think i got away with it'.
I can live with that, but then having the guy patronized other ways, such as the Merc bending down to talk to him......ohh annoyed the heck-a-doodle-doo out of me.
The Lucas Pegg character, hmm, he could be interesting, not enough seen about him to make a comment, he again is a bit of a cliche, you science geek, not world savvy, but i like the added religious tint of him, IF they play it well.
Now, for my praise....Dr. Nigel Fenway. I loved this characters beginning. With some inspired casting(Brent Spiner - Is it me or is this guy just a perfect Scientist guy - Independance Day, Start Trek-Data and Soong). He was the guy that should be the comic relief. He has proven over his sci-fi career that he is marvellous at the witty retort, perfect timing and amazing delivery.
This bit had me in 'stitches'(haha-i'm wasted on you lot)
Over all i'm still unsure, i will watch it again if nothing else, just because Wednesday nights are pretty crap TV wise at 9pm.
There are elements to this show i like, the DNA'forming i like that idea, the fact the Aliens are changing us from with in. The Effects were great. The Crazy already mutating guys were horror movie worthy.
It did feel a little X-Files meets Stargate with a touch of the 4400 and i could live with that, IF those shows weren't so gosh darned good. This feels, dialogue wise, 10 years too late.
It does need to mature a bit. Treat the viewer with a bit more intelligence, i mean lets be honest, if your not a Sci-fi/Genre TV geek, you are not gonna watch it, and god knows, i haven't met many unintelligent Sci-fi/genre geeks.
I hope that in a few weeks i can post here and say that the show has gotten better, that i can set my TV to it and to hell with other channels(honestly I'm a Celeb is gonna be competition....lol).

.Ramsey: I don't remember reading on the eighth day God, created Klingons.
Or the really crap set ups he has.
orRamsey: to Molly We should go out some time? Molly stares blankly at him What you don't date men smarter than you?
Molly: No, I've never met one.
Ramsey: You know Caffrey you didn't have to concoct this whole alien conspiracy to get us to be alone together.
Molly: Ramsey your boring me, or should I engrave it on a pillow for you.

Fenway: What is that a battlefield scar?
Cavennaugh: Something like that.
Fenway: Whoever stitched you up should be making shoes for a living.
