Tim Minear's "Drive" (Spoilers)

20th Century FOX, the studio, loves genre shows, I hear. I read that somewhere. They DO produce a lot of them. And they seem to appreciate quality. It's the heads at FOX the network that are more iffy I guess, so it's not like Minear is signing with FOX the network necessarily.

And I'm sure it's because all of his shows are cult hits, and critics love them.

At least this means we don't have to give up total hope on the TV world. Someone running it seems to care. 🙂

Two reviews of the pilot script have been posted on the blog in the last day. Plus, the blog has been added to Blogger's blog of note list - so the word may even be getting out amongst non-TV enthusiasts.

Thumbs up, man. "Blog of note"
And the obvious question is, "How do I get the script?"

But I know the answer, "I don't".

Man that sounds good though. I'm almost afraid to use my VCR, because I don't want to break it before Drive comes out. It must be taped. You don't wait around for re-runs when Fox is involved.

From what you hear here and there though, it does sound like Fox is at least looking past the pilot.

I'd like to know more about this "Tim Minear Going to Standoff" story.

"Standoff" is on the schedule for now, though Fox confirmed that production on the series was suspended this week in order to let the writers "catch up," according to a network spokesman.

The production hiatus also will allow Tim Minear, who has come aboard "Standoff" as a consulting producer, to get up to speed. Minear has been tapped to help with day-to-day operations on the show that will continue to be run by Craig Silverstein.

Is it fact? Is it rumour? How does it affect Drive.

New FOX shows are all dropping like rocks it seems. Will Standoff even survive til January?

How does it affect Drive.

I doubt it does. At least I hope not. From what I can gather, consulting producers seem to do no more than consulting - like Noxon during Angel's run, Greenwalt during the last two seasons of Angel and Minear in the finale one. So this isn't the sign of the apocalypse just yet, of course if Drive isn't picked up in the next few weeks that's another story.

On a plus side - everyone who's seen the pilot or just the opening of it, seems to have really liked it and with Fox's new shows getting the ratings they are...

Now that you put it that way...perhaps it's possible to see this as a positive sign. Perhaps Fox likes what they've seen of Drive, so they say to Tim, "can you just pop by, and help us out with this turkey Standoff", in a consulting way, kind of thing,.

Tim on Standoff is a waste of good talent and I am gonna throw a party when that piece of crap show gets canceled. FOX executives were definitely high in their meetings to determine their fall schedule this year because they picked some of the very worst shows possible.

Slightly OT, but did anyone else see Ben Edlund's name pop up as consulting producer on the Supernatural premiere? I thought I saw it out of the corner of my eye, and it made me think of this thread.

And I noticed this on Jackal's blog dated Oct. 5.

Okay, so after discovering that Fox page yesterday, Tim Minear came on Buffistas to clear things up and said the following:

Guys, a "drive" by (ya like that?) to say that no, "Drive" was not picked up today. All I can tell you is that they picked up the cast options when they came due not long ago, but the show itself -- not picked up so far. When I know anything conclusive, ya'll be the first to know. I wouldn't be warming up the TIVO at this point, though.

Ben Edlund is writing an upcoming episode of "Supernatural" called "Simon Said". So I guess he was in the credits.

Check out the blog. Now with new and improved screencaps.

Aw man, check out those caps! I like the Firebird. Is that a tribute to Burt Reynolds? And I like that mustard colored convertible, whatever it is...

Those shots look good.

I read on the FOX forums that Drive will be on Thursdays at 9/8c. To that, I say:

NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fox is seriously dedicated to utterly destroying this show already! GRRR. Not that I watch TV live anymore (my TV's broken) but Supernatural airs there. And CSI, Grey's, Scrubs, and 30 Rock.

Of course, there wasn't an official source but still, it seems likely FOX would stuff it there.

I REALLY wish they'd air the first three or four episodes behind American Idol.

I REALLY wish they'd air the first three or four episodes behind American Idol.

Isn't that what's going to happen?

In the U.S., Drive is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, March 1, 2007 on the FOX Broadcasting Network.

• Thursday, March 1, 8-9PM ET/PT - Second (American Idol) live results Show, two male and two female semifinalists voted off

Still, airing opposite Grey's and CSI does sound like a bit of death wish. Grey's in particular seems so hot right now.

Edit

Wait a minute now. It's starting to look like maybe this won't happen.

Scroll down to the comments from Allyson, and J monique. As I recall they're connected to Tim stuff. Didn't Allyson do the Behind the Scenes at the Inside articles?

Here's the latest from Jackal's blog...er...I mean site on the subject of air date.

Air Date Update
Written by Jackal
Sunday, 14 January 2007

A reliable source has told us that Drive will premiere on April 15th with two episodes and that the third will air on the 16th, before the show settles into its regular timeslot on Monday at 8pm.

This could change before then, but at the moment that's how it is. And it doesn't suck.

So it will have a two hour premiere on Sunday? And it's regular slot is on Mondays, not Thursdays?

Jackal's right, that doesn't suck. So it's airing before 24, right? I wish it was AFTER 24, ratings would be higher.

But at 8pm it's got virtually no competition. At 9pm it would be against Heroes -- at least it would be according to the Futon Critic.
