That's a quote, for those unfamiliar with the series, by Castagier (if I got the spelling correctly), one of the last remaining Immortals in the original "Highlander" movie, at the time of the Gathering, the final great battle to determine who the winner would be. The course had been run, the battle fought, the end was finally, for better or worse, in sight. With Season 8 at that point now, I was just wondering how many here would, like Castagier, like to have i little party, brink copious amounts of "boom-boom," and, like at a good old Irish wake, say something about the Dear Departed, good, bad, or indifferent, but from the heart. So...
And here lies the rubble that remains of what we of the Buffy community like to refer to as "Season 8." She wasn't a perfect season, but, then, we've never had one of those before, so why the hell should we have expected this one to be any better. It's brought us new friends, and it's cost us old ones. We've fought battles, both won and lost, and we've seen the people who we have grown to love and respect in totally different ways than we ever thought that we would have. We've seen the return of lovers and enemies. We've seen enemies become, if not friends, at least noble allies, and we've seem love betrayed and trust reaffirmed. It's been a helluva ride, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Rest well, Season 9. Your course is run, your battle over. May you live in our memories forever.
Now, let's pass the boom-boom around, and everyone drink deeply and well in the of our dear departed Season 8.
(And, now, the podium is open to anyone else who would like to stagger up and have their say...)
