Today marks the 15th anniversary of the battle of Hogwarts!

So I thought we'd make this into a Harry Potter appreciation thread, since there hasn't been one in a while (although I'm sure this is an old topic).

So what's everyone's favorite book? Characters?

I just bought the Hogwarts history which I'm starting to read tonight and I couldn't be more excited!

Blaze,
just to add to your excitment (?), and I've said of this a few times now.
When you watch a Disney film, right at the start of the Disney films intro.
There is a train going over a bridge, what I want to know is, how does the Hogwarts Express get there?

Magic of course ;)
I think Goblet of Fire is my favourite book. I remember when it came out and I was so excited to see how much bigger it was. I loved the break away from the formula of the first 3 books and the ending had me in tears!

I love Harry but my favourite character is Severus. What an amazing anti-hero! He's like a romantic, angry at the world goth kid who grew up full of secrets, regret, fear and simmering hatred (I don't believe he EVER liked Harry. It was all for *****)
Great character!

Great character!

Snape is also my favorite character, I mean look at the guy, it's pretty much impossible to not enjoy his character!! Hat goes of to JK Rowling on that one!

Um, I would have to say my favorite book would come down to either The Goblet of Fire or The Half Blood Prince. Character wise I dont really know who I would say was my favorite. Severus Snape was definitely a complex character who always kept me guessing, but I dont know if that was enough to completely endear myself to him. I liked Ginny a lot too, I was kinda in love with her while reading the books originally, but I hated the casting of her in the movies. Oh and I cant leave out Sirius Black. He was amazing and Gary Oldman is the man.

Hmmm...I haven't read the books in years, so I don't think I could decide on a favourite, but my favourite HP movies are CoS, HBP and DH (both parts).

My favourite character is probably Hermione. I also really love Lupin and recently my appreciation of Harry has grown. I have a illogical fondness for Draco, mainly because I read Dramione fanfiction. 😀

Goblet of Fire is definately my favourite book. I remember getting it when it first came out and not being able to stop reading it. I'd finish it and then start again- so brilliantly written. My favourite characters are Draco and Snape. I love how complicated their characters are and the actors that play them are awesome. Of course I also have a soft spot for the trio (Harry, Ron and Hermoine).
My favourite movies are The Philospher's Stone and the second part of The Deathly Hallows.
This thread is making me want to read the books again!

Goblet of Fire is getting a lot of love! It's funny it was always my least favorite, although it grew on me more and more now. But I mean, I still loved it enough to finish it in 24h when I first got it. My favorite book would have to be Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince. Half Blood Prince simply had me glued to the book, I remember reading it on the bus and crying at the end lol. Deathly Hallow and Prisonner of Azkaban are also up there. Argh it's too hard to choose!!

Favorite movie would have to be Deathly Hallow Part 2, a lot of people don't like the adaptation but I thought it was the best they could have possibly done with such a big book. The worst adaptation was probably Half-Blood Prince but I still enjoyed it.

I love Goblet of Fire too! Ultimately my favourites are Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows.

Favourite movies were Prisoner of Azkaban and DH part 1. It also helped that everyone had beautiful hair in the third movie (Apart from Fred and George). And I agree about Half Blood Prince being the worst. I was so disappointed with it. I know it's often cited as the least important book but I really loved the book.

My favourite character was always Fred, since I always seem to pick a favourite twin.

It's a hard call for me between the final four books. They're all incredible. I'll give a slight edge to book six, "The Half-Blood Prince", but it's razor thin.

What's the Hogwarts History? I've never heard of it.

To those who liked the character Draco.
Do you know of the name Draco? The 'person' Draco, in the years 620-621 there was a 'being' who promoted laws in Athens that had severe penalties, if any of those laws were broken the penalty would be death.
That is where the term Draconian comes from.
The name Draco was also known of in the 10th Century, presumably about the same 'being'.

First off, good choice with Half-Blood Prince 😉

And I made a mistake, I meant to write Hogwarts Library 😱 It's this small collection of books, also written by JK Rowling, which include "Quidditch Through the Ages", "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" (which is the book Hermione receives from Dumbledore in DH). It's a nice little addition to the serie, but they are quite short, about a hundred pages each and written in a big font.

Ah, right. I have those. I like them a lot.
A month late, as per usual 🙂

I love Harry Potter! Always, they are my favourite book series. My favourite book... well, I love them all, but today I'll pick Order Of Pheonix. As for films... Prizoner of Askaban and Order of Pheonix, definately. Incredible.

My favourite characters are Hermoine Granger, Draco Malfoy (the chapter with him and Harry in the sixth book-, in the bathroom...just.. wow), Severus Snape, Luna Lovegood

*geeks out* I love Harry Potter! Prisoner of Azkaban was definitely my favorite movie, bookwise...Half-Blood Prince. My favorite character is definitely Luna, she's so beautifully weird.

Tell me if I'm crazy:
When Deathly Hallows Part 2 came to theaters, I was scheduled a closing shift, and I wanted to watch Part 1 prior to waiting for the midnight release, like normal people, obviously, and I pulled a Paris Hilton to get outta work.

Couldn't agree more about Luna being beautifully weird! I actually named my cat after her, because my cat, well she's nuts, but in a weird nice way. Oh, and I don't think you're crazy at all for skipping work! I think I've done crazier for that franchise haha, but eh, totally worth it!

I've just finished a complete reread of the series, and made my skeptical boyfriend read the lot. He was gripped from the start - I think he read them all in 2 weeks!

I think it's a beautifully written series. I grew up with the books too - the first book was released when I was the same age as Harry. I loved that! I can't really say which is my favourite, but I remember reading the ending of Goblet of Fire for the first time and being genuinely scared.

I would say either Goblet of Fire or Half Blood Prince are my favourites, I'm doing a slow reread of the series, and recently did a full rewatch of all the films.

Annoyed though that my internet is not enough enough for me to get on pottermore, haven't been able to do any of the Prisoner of Azakaban bit 🙁

Oh definitely think Half-Blood Prince is my favorite book! Though Goblet of Fire and Chamber of Secrets are close seconds. Favorite movie was probably Chamber of Secrets or Prisoner of Azkaban. Highly disappointed when it came to the Half-Blood Prince movie. That one got kind of screwed up I think. Favorite characters...Snape, Lupin, and George. Everyone seems to always like Fred more but I have a soft spot for George. Obviously all the characters are amazing though!

I was so mad at the HBP movie, they screwed up the whole ending for me. I really think they should have fallowed to book a bit closer for that adaptation. And they cut all the details that made the book awesome. I understand that they had to cut some of the plot, but this is the only movie I was really bothered by it. Probably because it's my favorite book too 😛

This, all of this. HBP as a movie was really infuriating to watch, which is sad because it was so enjoyable to read. Also, Ginny as a character in that movie (and in the movies in general) was a mere cardboard cutout of what she was in the books. I think part of it was Bonnie Wright as an actress just couldn't pull her off, but in general, the movies never gave her much to do. And they screwed up Harry and Ginny's first kiss! 😡

Half Blood Prince might be my favorite book. Prisoner of Azkaban also comes to mind (that movie was also not my favorite, but a lot of people seem to like it). I recently re-read Goblet of Fire and I forgot how much I liked it (glad to see it getting love on here!) The Deathly Hallows Movies (especially Part 1) are probably my favorites.
