To kill this girl, you have to love her

"To kill this girl, you have to love her" - Angelus.

I don't get that line. If you love a girl, why would you kill her?
And another question: did Anglues love Buffy? (then why kill her?)

I think it's more of a statement like "to kill this girl, you have to now her intimately", like you really have to know how to push her buttons and get under her skin... Angelus probably recognized the fact that Buffy was a girl with friends and family assisting her in a way that was uncommon for Slayers, she had emotional support, people to lean on... so just being fangy and grr wasn't gonna do it y'know 🙂

As for Angelus loving her and wanting to kill her I think it was because obviously Angelus is Angel, Angel loves Buffy... therefor Angelus loves Buffy. But he takes it to a dark and twisted place. Love isn't natural for him and it seems to turn to obsession... he probably wanted to 'cleanse' himself of the feelings by getting rid of the target for them
