"Willow, your shirt."
What the. I look down at my shirt, and all I see is the colour red. My wide eyes quickly move back to see Tara lying on the floor, her eyes open.
"Oh no. Baby, breathe."
I soon feel myself turning to the dark side, and summoning for my one and only to regain consciousness. The demon before me tried to tell me that it cannot be done, but I refuse to believe it is true. Once the demon is gone, I decide to summon another demon, but they did not show. I quickly move to a book, which I hid in a draw. I turn to a section on reversing what happened only to one person. Good, it will reverse something that was done by a human.
Once I read this spell, I turn to my Tara. She was still lying on the ground motionless. I slowly sit next to the lifeless body on the floor. I then put my head in my hands, and begin to cry. Though this does not last long, because I feel something touching my left arm. I instantly lift my head, and my eyes connect with a familiar pair. Tara?
Looking down at her body, I see that there is no bullet hole through her blue shirt, only a red stain where it should have been. Did my spell work? I just stare dumbfounded at Tara.
All of a sudden, I hear a small voice come from Tara. "What happened?"
"A bullet came through the window and hit you. You were dead, I think, but I brought you back."
"What? How?"
"I used a reversal spell."
Tara looks at me, and a look of disappointment washes over Tara's face. "But I didn't think that we, you, weren't using any form of magic?"
"But it worked."
"That's not the point, Willow." Now Tara is sitting up, leaning against the wall. "I am grateful, don't get me wrong. But you used magic on something for yourself. Do you know what the consequences could be?"
"I realise that now, but I just wanted to save you. I don't know what I would do if I lost you."
This leads to me acknowledging what was going on, and I lean in for a hug. Tara doesn't seem to reject this, and allows me to continue. Tara doesn't tell me, but deep down I think that she is glad that I attempted to save her life. Everything that we have been through, the ups and downs, the good days and bad.
I finally let go, and I don't seem to know what to say. After what seems like an eternity, I stand up, and moves to the bed "“ the one that we share. What do I do now? My only love seems to despise what I have done. Maybe I did do it for myself, but she should still be grateful, and leave it at that. I just sit in silence, waiting for Tara or anyone to say something. The silence is deafening.
"Willow." Tara now moves towards me, and sits down on the bed. "Maybe if we do something about the whole save-the-person-for-yourself thing, I am sure everything will be fine."
I looks up into those eyes, and my anger melts away. "Ok then."
This time, Tara initiated the intimate moment, leaning in for a hug. I begins to feel relief that finally I have my true Tara back. I begin to respond by moving my head, reaching in for a kiss.
This moment did not last long, as something begins to happen. I begin to feel a strange feeling coming over like, like a numbness. Not now. Please not now. Tara seems to also feel this...like she is holding nothing "“ thin air.
I had read about what happens when you use powers for yourself. Eg, saving someone from death, creating lots of money "“ something bad will happen. But I have never read about the steps you go through. I never wanted to put myself in danger, but in the moment, all I could think of was saving Tara. So this is my punishment.
Tara seems to let go of my body, which limply flops onto the bed. All I can do is stare into those eyes which has shown me love for the last 2 ½ years. I know that we have been through so much together, but it always comes back to what our feelings are for each other. I begin to feel my body just letting go of the life I once lived, and memories of my life gone begin to flash before my eyes:
The first day I met my best friends, Buffy. The day I met Oz, and the night that I kissed Xander (or was it when he kissed me!). All the battles I have fought alongside Buffy, Xander, and Giles. Meeting Tara for the first time in the Wiccan Group. Our intimate experiences. The day Glory took my beloved Tara's mind away from us. Our terrible fight, and then our making up.
At that last thought, there was nothing. Not a sound or vision. Then a great white light.
