Hey everyone,

Another essay today in light of our favorite slayer's birthday! As always, I'd love to hear what people think!

Buffy's Birthday: January 19, 1981 and Astrology

In the Season 4 episode "Doomed," Buffy tells Riley -- in a sarcastic way when he asks her, "What are you?" after seeing her in battle for the first time in the prior episode "Hush" -- that she is a "Capricorn on the cusp of Aquarius." Although there is a little uncertainty about Buffy's birthday (see later), it has been deemed by Joss Whedon and "Buffy" fandom that the date is January 19, 1981. In other words, Buffy Summers is thirty-one years old today (and only four months younger than I, so I could always related to what the characters were going through in their lives).

Great thread - thanks for posting it :)
I feel that most of those characteristics do fit her accurately. I sometimes feel like astrology is a crock of bull haha but I've yet to meet someone who doesn't meet their sign's characteristics to some degree. A coincidence perhaps? 😉 Even though Buffy's older than me...the fact that she's 31 makes me feel so old.

Well, just for fun:
The book "The Secret Language of Relationships" by Gary Goldschneider, says about people born in this week,
Well, it says a lot but I will give you a few excerpts
"The Cusp of Mystery and Imagination: January 17-22, The vivid and expressive individuals born on the Capricorn-Aquarius cusp generate excitement wherever they go. Unable to keep out of the action for very long, they make their presence felt almost immediately on entering a room. Their viewpoints tend to be controversial and whether conservative or radical are highly stimulating, often because of the dramatic way they are delivered. [Their] interest in the poor and downtrodden is more than theoretical: most of them will not hesitate to make direct contributions of time, money or energy to help anyone less fortunate than themselves.
"...Capricorn-Aquarians can get pretty wild, so it is not surprising that violence can feature in their lives, whether they attract it or enact it. Chaotic, out-of-control energies can produce tremendous unrest in the lives of those born on this cusp. Their regard for their personal safety is usually not high, a trait they may reinforce with a daredevil nature--a deadly or at least dangerous combination. A disregard for their health in general, and an insistent confidence that their prodigious energies with bail them out, time and time again, can wear them down over the years, or induce chronic physical conditions.
"Capricorn-Aquarians have a pronounced dark side. Not ones to keep anger inside for very long, they can explode in fits of temper that will send others scurrying. The image of a furious Capricorn-Aquarian hell-bent on punishment is at tremendous variance with the face they present when enjoying themselves and having fun. More than most, those born in this week can be at the mercy if their demons, so that their outbursts of temper are truly spontaneous, Because they are rarely calculating, it is hard to blame them for their tremendous mood swings, which are usually forgiven, though not easily forgotten, by those closest to them.
"Even the most settled and conventional Capricorn-Aquarians will often have an active dream and fantasy life... Everyday situations can prove the springboard for bizarre mental gyrations, in which [they] becomes the central character in an imaginary world.
"[They] often seek hard-working, dependable mates rather than beautiful or intelligent ones. Outside their permanent or primary relationship, however, the impulsive Capricorn-Aquarius may be magnetically attracted to vivacious and exciting individuals, or to quieter but still passionate types... When they stray, they suffer to an extent from guilt, but this can lend extra spice to their indiscretions. Although they may attach little importance to such flings, their partner may not be so understanding, and deep, long-lasting hurts may be inflicted.
"...Capricorn-Aquarians lucky enough to have a stable support group, whether in family, friends or, a mate, can have it all, establishing many facets of their personalities."
The book also mentions some famous people born this week, they include: Joe Frasier, Muhammad Ali, Janis Joplin, Federico Fellini, Geena Davis, Ben Franklin, Al Capone and Jim Carey, among others
Pretty interesting, huh?

Haha cool. Now I just need Buffys adress and then I'll sent her a Happy-Birthday-card.

Now serious, I was pretty interested in Buffys birthdate and now I read it because of sjscottt80. Thank you! But all in all I don't give much of astrology-things. Just like [MENTION=8401]david4wt[/MENTION]. I mean, someone has to write these things. Where do he/she gets his or hers informations? By the way, do we know about any other birthdays? From Willow or Xander for example?

I used to be obsessed with astrology. I had a book completely devoted to my sign (Libra), and I used to actually believe what they said as true. I'd go around and tell people, "well, I shouldn't engage in that kinda stuff, because I'm a Libra, and Libras......" 😛 I was such a spazz. But cool chart!
