Well, they did their best to make it a cliffhanger (which is not necessarily the same thing as a good season finale, I realize).
As for Connor and the power tools, the only explanation that makes a moderate amount of sense is that Justine knew how to use them and gave him a crash course. (He does seem to be a quick study at anything involving hand-eye coordination.)
Someone earlier suggestested that Cordy was made a higher being in order to rescue Angel, which would make sense given it would probably take a higher being to even find him on the ocean floor. (A successful tryst would have just turned him into Angelus, anyway.)
Wes is a real wildcard. Will he go over to the Forces of Darkness? Maybe. Will he see the light in time? Maybe. Will he just self-destruct out of anger and too much alcohol? Maybe. It's all very frustrating.
