Too many demons?

In the 'verse theres lots of demons, seems to be a new breed every episode. Id have liked if there was alot more recurring demons, like the hellhounds in The Prom was similar to the one in Pylea, which i liked.
Its like too many new demons made it a bit more 'fake' and detracted from the importance of vampires, as the first few seasons i got the feeling vamps were an actual serious threat.

I dunno, id just like to have seen a set amount of demon species rather than random new ones all the time. Anyone else think there was too many or did you like all the different ones?

I dont mind new ones because the idea of dimensions was introduced. Like most demons were just from other dimensions. I do agree it did detract from other already well established demons though. Vampires by the end of both series became sorta lame.

I agree that vampires sort of lost their thrill but always having new demons just impresses upon the idea of how anything can happen in a place where the hell dimensions are limitless...the one thing they could have done was push some beings from more heavenly dimensions. I would have liked to see some angelic beings come into the mix even though, for some reason, I get the feeling that would be less acceptable to people because it introduces the idea of God which people seem so offended by...which is odd...

why is it odd? some people don't believe in god. but anyway, i agree that vampires did lose their thrill, but the dimensions idea was really cool.

As for vampires being a serious threat, I think it simply means that at the beginning Sunnydale was inhabited by powerful vamps (as well as not-so-powerful ones), but Buffy killed off most of the powerful vampires, leaving only the not-so-powerful vampires and the powerful demons.

It also makes sense that just as there are hundreds of species of animal, so there are hundreds of species that fall under the classification of "demons." There's more variety among them, and that's why the concept had so much life in it. I also notice that there were several different demons that might be described as "praying mantis demons": Natalie French, the demons from Jasmine's dimension, and the ones from Fredless.

It might have been a good idea to have more angelic beings, but the shows would have been quite different if they had. Look at Charmed, they had many engaging plots involving angels (Whitelighters) and other obviously "good" magical creatures, and the result was that the show became much lighter in tone than Buffy and Angel. In general, the Buffyverse writers just stuck to explaining that certain demons are "good demons," and they are no more like angels than good humans are.

that's a really good point. i really like that about buffy. things were often in shades of grey.

I see what you're saying, they're supposed to be secret - with so many species how don't more people see them. On the other hand I get the species thing - in every species there are other species of the same (like eight kadrillion types of frogs).

I only say it's odd because they're more comfortable with the demons which represent hell basically but the good side would be offensive...I think that's funny.

There should be less demons. I would have liked to have seen more angelic characters!
