Top 10 songs of all time.

If you live in Australia, you may be aware that triple j are doing a vote on the Hottest 100 songs of all time. Everyone gets to vote for their TOP 10 SONGS OF ALL TIME.

I've spent a good 2 weeks solid thinking about this and noting down songs that I love. I'm trying to think about many factors; What songs do I love to dance to? What songs do I love to sing to? What songs put the hairs up on the back of my neck from hearing the first few chords? What songs really mean something to me? What songs are just well written, and well performed?

I have a top 11 at the moment, and I'm struggling to cut one out.

I would like to ask you all the same question that I have been pondering. If you are in Australia have you voted? What have you voted for? If you're not in Australia who would you vote for? And more importantly why? What are the factors you would consider?

Huh. I tried to make a list of my top 10 songs and wound up with a list of 20. I'm surprised I was able to cut it down that far.

The 10 I wound up keeping, in no particular order:

1. "Won't Get Fooled Again" - The Who (live from The Kids Are Alright)
2. "Riders On the Storm" - The Doors
3. "Into the Valley" - The Skids
4. "Closing Time" - Leonard Cohen
5. "Private Psychedelic Reel" - Chemical Brothers
6. "Cowgirl" - Underworld
7. "Walk Away" - Dropkick Murphys
8. "Save It For Later" - The Beat
9. "Feeling Gravitys Pull" - R.E.M.
10. "Suspect Device" - Stiff Little Fingers

But this list would probably change on any given day.

I was just thinking about this in the car on the way home! I've been trying to figure out my top ten since I heard that guy on the morning show last friday talking about the first hottest 100 of all time. Its soo hard! I have quite a few bands on my list but havent yet narrowed it down to what songs... and that list is VERY long! Haha. So far the only 2 that are defo guna be in my top 10 are:
Jerks of Attention - Jebediah
Anthem for 2000 - Silverchair

Some of the bands on my list are Gyroscope, Grinspoon, Nirvana, Blink 182, Spiderbait, Placebo, Oasis (Im thinking Wonderwall cos it reminds me of leavers lol), The Living End (Second Solution?), Powderfinger, Queens of the Stoneage, Cat Empire 🙂p) and possibly John Butler Trio (Betterman). Plus about a thirty more!

I dont have any deep and meaningful reason for these songs, I'm just thinking of the songs that I can listen to again and again, the ones that I enjoy belting out in the car not caring who is watching (I swear everytime I've been flashed I have my mouth open singing) and the songs that remind me of a fun time or place. I rekon Bohemian Rhapsody will be voted in the top ten for sure and I wouldnt be suprised if Kings of Leon does as well, just because of how popular they are at the moment. I hope there are alot of good older songs in there and not just a bunch of recent ones (even though most of my list is kinda recent - well the last 12 yrs or so recent 😛). Cant wait to hear it all though!
