1. James Marsters (perfectionist-level performance, he is the Daniel Day-Lewis of the Buffyverse IMO)
2. Anthony Stewart Head (comedy, drama -- this guy can do it all)
3. Alexis Denisof (buffoonish Wesley, slightly less buffoonish Wesley, anti-heroic Wesley, heartbroken Wesley...)
4. Sarah Michelle Gellar (worked her ass off)
5. Amy Acker (Season 5, nuff said)

If I had to pick a No. 6 it would probably be Juliet Landau -- it's clear that she takes the material as seriously as James does and was very convincing playing Dru.

  1. James Marsters (charisma for days, couldn't imagine anyone else in the role. The way he uses his whole body to act, his slight changes in his expressions, I sometimes actually wonder if he really is a vampire).
  2. David Boreanaz (I didn't really care for him in BtVS, but once he had his own show he was really impressive and he managed to pull off being the main character very well. Plus I like the story of how he was cast).
  3. Alexis Denisof (his whole arc was believable and his bad side didn't ever feel forced when it really could have. He made my heart break for Wesley so many times!).
  4. Amy Acker (Illyria.. just.. Illyria).
  5. Anthony Stewart Head (I'm so glad ASH got the role, again another character I couldn't imagine anyone else portraying. He managed to pull of being a bit of a hottie and a father figure really well).

I'd echo that, too. Juliet is fantastic. Like father, like daughter.
 
Is this for the Whedonverse or just Buffy/Angel? And does it include Whedonverse movies, ala Buffy and Serenity? (I do not count marvel nor cabin the woods as whedonverse)
 
I think it's just for Buffy and Angel characters.. otherwise it'd have been posted in The Whedonverse? Correct me if wrong @Samuel Reyes!

Buffyverse. If I have time I'll create a separate thread for the Whedonverse as a whole.
Those are my choices for the Whedonverse (BtVS, AtS, Dollhouse...haven't seen Firefly)

Alyson Hannigan -She rocks the comedic scenes, as well as the dramatic ones. It's a travesty that she hasn't done any serious roles since Willow, cause dam she can really rock being a badass, as well as having really emotional scenes. She was by far the strongest actress in s6 when she had to rock being evil, and she had to rock really dramatic scenes that just broke your heart for the character

Enver Gjokaj -My pick for top actor on Dollhouse, this man is really, really talented. He really could have just played anyone. He plays Kiki even better than ED does, and his Topher is even more Topher than Topher himself.

Amy Acker - Fred, Illyria, Saunders etc. Amy Acker is a really underrated actress, each role she takes is just so different from the next, and she rocks every single one of them

Alexis Denisof - It was between him and ASH, both do a great job with the British Watchers! I think Denisof had slightly better material, or at least more diverse material to work with. But the two are equally good in their roles.

Eliza Dushku- Not the strongest actress on set, but one of the most personable. Faith wouldn't have been Faith without her. And although she had a few weaker episodes on Dollhouse, she rocked the character of Echo and Caroline. One scene in particular in the final episode jumps to mind as crazy good acting. This girl can act, I think it depends a bit more on the material she's given though.
 
1. James Marsters... I truly love this guy. His acting is absolutely on point! Everything that Spike went through, he portrayed it all so brilliantly and I never get bored of him.
2. Alyson Hannigan... In everything she does, I think she is absolutely brilliant! S6 was definitely her strongest point of all the Buffy seasons and she just deserves a round of applause everytime she preforms.
3. Summer Glau... From a Russian ballet dancer, to a smart ass with a mental disorder and then to another smart ass with a sad past. I love her work greatly.
4. Amy Acker... I AM IN LOVE WITH FRED. She made Fred the ball of energy she is and I praise her greatly for this. This triggered me to fall further in love with her as Beatrice in MAAN.
5. Alexis Denisof... to see his acting when the development of Wesley took place was such a pleasure to experience. I love getting to see an actor show the clear distinction between how this character was once and how they've evolved because of recent events. He does this with such grace and DAMN THAT STUBLE.

If you would have partaken in the Buffy-Board Firefly & Serenity Rewatch then you would have known the answer and not even had to have asked. You shame yourself, Blaze, by having to ask. Shame.

You can definitely watch Serenity on its own without seeing Firefly first, if that's what you feel like doing. Firefly feels very different from the film - still enjoyable but I think as a whole the story worked better as a sci-fi film than a futuristic, western tv show.

I agree about the difference between Serenity and Firefly. I don't like the western elements.
@Mr. Pole I don't have the DVD!

...well the real excuse is that I don't really like space set movies/shows.

You might! The characters and actors definitely make it watchable for them alone. Fillion and Torres are fantastic. :)

Firefly and Serenity are a bit like Buffy in that way - "I don't like vampire stuff" - the premise of the show may be about space and a spaceship's crew and what they get up to in space, but once you watch you realise the main themes are war, government, conspiracy, class systems and colonization, etc. The dialogue is smart and funny, much like BtVS, and there's not much "space" in it as it's mostly acted out on the terrain of the planets they land on. I'd define it more as a sci-fi western than a space set show, if that makes sense.

Good point, I don't even like vampires, so I might like Firefly in that sense
