Torchwood: Children Of Earth

Starts Monday 6th July, 9pm, BBC One.

Anyone looking forward to this? I am, but I'm still a little disappointed that it's only one story rather than a full 13 episodes.

The last series ended on a real high, if you can call culling two fifths of the cast a high, but will this truncated series deliver the goods, or is it the end for Torchwood?
 
Ditto. I'm looking forward to it but I am a little apprehensive that it won't deliver as much as 13 episodes would. 🙂
 
This is one event that I've been looking forward to all year! Disappointed it's not the full 13 eps and I think it will be a little weird to see a Torchwood without Tosh and Owen! 🙁 I'm gonna miss them.
 
Well having watched it, what do you all think, hit or miss.

Personally I think that it went better than I feared, although 2 or 3 episodes would probably made it a stronger story. If there's something that I have trouble with over RTD's scripts it's that they could be tighter.

Having read "The Writer's Tale" he seems to think that spending weeks, or longer, brooding mentally over his stories is somehow a substitute for rewriting or editing.

However, despite that "Children of Men" was an exciting, well acted and compelling drama, probably one of my favourite programs this year.

The tragic ending and a certain characters demise alone made it compelling, if uncomfortable viewing.

Peter Capaldi for one deserves an award for his role as civil servant John Frobisher.

If you haven't watched it yet go and do so on BBC iplayer now! Or Americans can wait until the end of the month when it's on BBCA. 🙂
 
It was brilliant, classic British SF TV...well done RTD and all concerned...go on over to After Darkness to see more of my thoughts...and the return of BotD 🙂 And Peter Capaldi was indeed superb. Something that I hadn't thought about before but have seen hinted about here and there...this season of Torchwood is very definitely a direct descendant of Nigel Kneale's Quatermass IMO
 
I loved the first 4 episodes, hated the last one. The story was good, aber it was far too much drama. And there were some terrible plotholes..
 
I really liked Season 3. To me torchwood finally lived up to being a proper show. The Characters have much more depth that ever. I like Jack's character more. It think showing these choices he has to make without fearing death, you can see why he makes them even if you disagree with them.

Season one of torchwood to me just have nothing about it other that the odd shock value.

Season two some of the stories where better written and you got into the characters more.

Season three the best so far
 
I have liked the show all along, but I really really loved Children of Earth...took everything up a notch

no they wanted children.. wow... way I saw it the governments over acted a bit now...

"OH NO ALL THE CHILDREN!" well how many do they let die around the world by storing food and giving money to the wrong people... yeah think about it



My sister found it boring apart from when the children chanted.... she also joined in with the pointing, and freaked our mominator out HAHA go amy!




Best of all was this weeks "You Are Watching"

He talked about the show the way I did all last week.... like the alien that we never really saw... that gobbed on glass when it got angry, nice!

I love Charlie Brooker yes he would hate that he has fans but I'm sure there are more on BB who like him too... I knows it!



I read no spoilers for it, and said at the start of the week... Gwen will go off and marry her bloke and leave and Ianto will die so Jack can be free again.

I wasnt quite sure about the killing/frying his grandson... I'm not sure why they needed to use the children for the signal... well okay use them cause the aliens used them but why use a kid for the signal. There was no reason the aliens used children other than to scare us and get our attention, so why couldnt Jack be the fried one, as he could recover....

remember i watched it once, and i would like a reason for it.

Sad to see Ianto go, not as much as I was for Tosh, i didnt see that coming at the time... remember i dont read spoilers
 
Looking forward to season four? I thought there wasn't going to be a season four..?

That depends on the Powers That Be at the BBC...there was an interview with RTD, where he said he had season 4 already mapped out...I'm keeping my fingers crossed...after all Dollhouse got renewed 🙂

I'm guessing, and hoping, that with the ratings this time around another series should be a certainty.

BBC stupidity notwithstanding!
 
I thought the point of s3 was to close the show with a bang, whats it going to go onto now..... Jack in space?

I was hoping it left him open to guest in Doctor Who more
