"Touched" Rewritten

Reading another thread about the events in "Empty Places," where Buffy is thrown out of her own home by a bunch of ingrates, this thought just occurred to me. Let's assume that Spike and Andrew were delayed at the monastery for another night, and Angel arrived in Sunnydale a couple of days earlier than actually happened on the show. So, instead of Spike confronting the whole gang, we have Angel showing up only to find out what has happened. How would he handle the situation?

First off, I can't envision Angel making any sort of "You sad, sad, ungrateful TRAITORS..." speech, it just doesn't seem to be his style. And I really can't see him getting into a fight with Faith, especially since he would almost certainly still be feeling bad about their fighting only a few weeks before in LA (It's bad enough to almost kill a friend when you can blame it on your evil alter ego. There's just no defense for doing it when you're really "you.")

So how do you think that the scene would have played out if it had been Angel instead of Spike? (And really, honestly, I am not trying to turn this into a Spuffy vs Bangel debate)

You know I have often wondered about this too. I don't think he would have went with an outburst like Spike but I think he would have been creepily calm but intimidating all the same. I think he would have had choice words for Giles, Willow, Xander and been horribly disappionted in Dawn. I think he would taken them plus Faith aside and gave them a chance to explain and then handed their arses to them.

I think I may just have to have a go at writing this now...Dammit WA!

^ I agree. I don't think he would have been as outwardly angry, but he definitely would have been pissed off. I can see him pulling Giles, Willow, and Xander aside and telling them they were extremely crummy. Then I think he would have gone and encouraged Buffy all the same.

I agree with you all. Angel would have handled the situation very differently...let's say with probobly a bit more finesse than Spike did, I think. Spike's a passionate guy, you know? He reacted in perfect Spike-style. But Angel...He would have been calm and simply asked "Are you kidding me? Seriously, guys? You're kicking her out?"

Then he would have sniffed her out like Spike had and given her a uplifting speech like Spike did. 😉 But it would have been way more epic like his infamous "The world is ending speeches"

Oh, you know Angel. He'd come in with some hard look on his face and give a really calm but degrading speech about how they should feel so horrible and totally guilt trip them about what they did. He wouldn't resort to name-calling, but he'd have his FACE on. You know... That one he always gets when he is pissed but won't say it.

Well, I think that the confrontation would have been avoided - Faith would have been more cooperative with Angel and Willow not so nervous about telling him that Buffy had taken some "time out". Then they would have worked together to find Buffy. Once the gang had located her then they would have a confrontation, of sorts, where Buffy would vent about being kicked out and Angel, in an effort to get all their minds back on the impending apocalypse, would reveal that he had the amulet and Faith would volunteer to wear it.

I like the real version with Spike in it better...

I don't really know what would happen. I don't think there'd be any violence involved just Angel being broody.
I'm very glad that didn't happen because I think all of that stuff was done really well. I think including too much Angel would have weakened the season and especially this certain part.

What I would like to see even more is if Spike and Angel arrived at the same time and, fighting, went into the house and BOTH found out what had happened. But them both sniffing her out would have been lame.

I agree. Angel would have been much calmer yet still incredulous about the whole situation. He might have bothered to get the whole story but still would have sided with Buffy.

How about . . . no Angel? It was bad enough watching him appear in the finale, acting like a moody brat. I didn't need to see him in other episodes.

I agree. Angel at this point isn't too passionate about Buffy, he'll be more objective than Spike, but he'd still go look for her.

I'd love Angel & Spike to both arrive at the same time, be arguing outside the door (spike reveals he has a soul & angel goes all moody brat), arguing as they walk in, both say unanimously "where's buffy", listen to the explanation, try and tell the others off in their own way but not agree with each other, both stomp off and walk in opposite directions.

Then Angel finds her first, he's relieved to see her and she's upset and they kiss, talk about the amulet, angel walks away. The spike finds her.


Basically combining that bit from when angel comes back and what actually happens, to make it a lot more convincing on angel's part (seriously;

he's just given up his kid; the person he loves has had her body taken over by an evil entity & then put in a coma without much help of waking up; the only way of making things better is to side with his mortal enemies for 4 years

and he just comes and kisses her. Noway!) and make the last 2 episodes a lot more about the scoobies than angel coming back. I mean, even if he had 10 minutes of screen-time/references to him; i think that'd be much better served letting us in on what Xander; Willow and Giles are thinking/doing before the big fight instead.

I know it is not about Spike and Angel but in Touched, Willow making a spell to a bringer. A Turkish Spell. If someone is wondering she said like that:

Had it been Angel instead of Spike...

I see Angel giving each of them a very daunting and disappointing look, & reminding each of them a very specific time when Buffy saved their life (& we see that reminder in flash-back sequence) and after Angel is done reminding them how Buffy ALWAYS came thru for them, he'd turn to walk out while saying "I'm going to find Buffy now - because that is what she would do for me" and each one would get up & follow him out, one by one, with an ashamed look on their face for ever doubting Buffy to begin with. And Faith, trailing them, remembers how Buffy tried to include her in her life by inviting her to Xmas dinner with her & her mom (from S-3, before Faith went whack) and we see a tear escape from Faith's eye.

End of scene.

Again . . . why did the episode need Angel? What is this desire to have Buffy continue what was obviously a teenage love/angst festival? Isn't she allowed to grow up and move on?

Well, I personally feel that Angel was the love of her life. She loved him with everything she had, and their breakup definitely made a mark on her, and she on him. Obviously if Buffy was the only person who could give Angel "perfect happiness", then she was the love of his as well. Yeah they were a little Dawson's Creek-ish with the overemotional moping and stuff, but they were very very important to each other and when you have a love like that, you can't just cut them out of your life. Move on? Sure. But you can't (and shouldn't) forget someone who meant so much to you in the past.
