Toys of Our Youth

A given on Christmas Day was a new plastic hockey blade and one year a neighbour kid got the showdown attachments for the net.
One year some genius came up with an orange plastic ball for street hockey that when exposed to the great Canadian outdoors froze to the stiffness of an orange rock! We only used that once then went back to the 3-man rotation of the good ol' tennis ball, two guys would keep a tennis ball in their pocket to thaw it out and when the one being used got hard we switched it out.
And who could forget the other favourite winter toy...crazy carpet! Nothing like rocketing down a hill on a sheet of plastic. Sweet ride until you caught air and landed on your butt, or head, lol.
 
I had four cabbage patch dolls...with clothes, a playpen and old baby stuff that I used for them. That was my main toy (and I wonder why I like kids!)

My Little Pony was also huge! The back-in-the-day ponies...from the 80's (not the newer ones). I liked the fuzzy ones and the winged ones and the unicorns!

I also played some barbies, Strawberry Shortcake, and Maple Town (mice and bunnies all dressed up and living in homes...I had a house)

Action Man - not the modern "adventurer", my guys were soldiers, sailors and airmen with big guns🙂

The original action figure. I had the Maskatron and Bigfoot figures to go with it. Man I wish I could find those again, just for collector's sake.

Hey, did any of you have those little plastic soldiers, complete with tanks, planes, etc.? I had a set that came in a little warchest. Enemy soldiers were beige, good soldiers were green. I forgot the name of that specific set.

I had only a handful of those small ones.....Hulk, Falcon, Spidey, and Lizard. My mom wouldn't get me all figures in both sizes. Lol.
I agree, there's a lot of cheese factor involved in these old toys...but that's a big part of their charm. $400 bucks, eh? yikes...maybe not THAT charming....

Definitely had army men. A friend of mine had this really elaborate army man deal with a large hollow "mountain" setpiece. Different levels, gun turrets, entrance for vehicles.

Who didn't have little toy soldiers? We would use lady finger fire crackers for some good war scenarios.
Hey did anyone ever have fun with a Barrel of Monkeys?
 
I used to have a barrell of monkeys and my mom would always get mad because she would step on them (I left them on the carpet in my room). Did anyone also have a Big Wheel, we would have lots of fun racing one another and spinning out.

I had a large collection of Star Wars figures, the only toys I cared for really. I had them until I was about 9, when my mother thought they were making me violent and she got rid of them (I think she gave them to charity). She soon saw the flaw in that logic when I went nuts and started remodelling her living room.:silly:
 
God, i had so many toys as a kid...and really random things too.

well, like most girls, i had tons of Barbies...i had a car, the caravan/camper van, horse, some stupid house that was supposed to pop up, but didn't pop and i got annoyed and threw it at a wall and it broke...all within four hours of getting it for Christmas!
i had these kinda model vintage cars that my cousin gave to me. she was a real tomboy as a kid, and is like 13 years older than i am. as i'm the oldest child of my parents, my cousin and her sister were the people closet to my age...so, from one cousin i got the Barbie dolls, and the other cousin i got all these really cool cars. i got really into these cars, and i still am. i have over a hundred now, really old model cars.
i had the My Little Ponies... but like SB said, the ones from the eighties. we left them behind when we moved house and i was so gutted!
i don't know if anyone remembers these, or even if you guys had them in the States, but i used to collect these things called Puppies in my Pocket, which were like different breeds of dogs and you collected them and they all had different names that they came with.
