No doubt hoping to ride the monster wave created by Showtime's critically acclaimed series Penny Dreadful (Eva Green was recently nominated for a Golden Globe) and that of the upcoming Universal Monster Universe, Deadline reports The CW has officially picked up Transylvania to series.
Set in the 1880s, the period horror drama will be executive produced by Midnight Radio -- comprised of Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg -- the guys who brought us last summer’s sleeper hit series Zoo for CBS. Hell And Back’s Hugh Sterbakov has been tapped to write the pilot. Here are the first details for the series:
Transylvania centers on a headstrong young woman in search of her missing father who ventures from NYC to Transylvania where she teams up with a wrongfully disgraced Scotland Yard Detective, and together they witness the births of the most famous monsters and villains in history.
As Den of Geek points out, Transylvania will be set in the decade before the events of Penny Dreadful (the first episode of Season 1 revealed the events of the premiere as taking place in Sept. 1891).
Since the show is on The CW (which already boasts 2 series that includes vampires, witches and werewolves with The Vampire Diaries and The Originals), expect Transylvania to feature plenty of good-looking people that will appeal to a wide range of demographics, while we sit through new origin stories for Dracula, the Wolfman, the Frankenstein monster and more.
