Much is said of the dangers of drugs and alcohol; how they offer a euphoric experience to escape or a numbing sensation to dull pain. However, one type of drug with similar effects that doesnt get mentioned enough is that of the past and future. How easy is it to escape into a dreamworld future or retreat into the past reliving the same experiences over again?

Personally this affects me. Escaping into the future and dreaming of a better life and getting lost in the past regretting and agonizing over mistakes. When the dreamer in me starts up it seems all I can do is think about tomorrow- how I will do this or that, how it will be this way, how much better it will be when this happens; yet when the depressive in me starts grumbling it seems all I can do is look at yesterday, thinking of what I should have done, how it would have been, how much different my life, my self, would have been.

These are drugs. These are traps. The more we look to the past or the more we dream of the future the less we do today. It is too easy to get trapped in the future watching your past recede only to realize that the future never comes because the only thing you did was dream on it. Never actually taking the steps to make it come to fruition.

As most of you know, I am a professed geek so let me flaunt my geekness: This reminds me of when Yoda was chastising Luke in Empire Strikes Back. "Never your mind on where you are, hmm, what you are doing." Its very much that. The past and the future are drugs by which we escape. As long as we partake in those drugs, as long as it is a habit, we can never be the husband, wife, friend, person or even Jedi, we were meant to be.

So Yoda, I am trying.. I am trying.

I hear you. I'm a fellow daydreamer that needs to stop dreaming of living, and actually start living.
"Never your mind on where you are, hmm, what you are doing."

Me in a nutshell. Last year, I once rode the wrong horse for 45 minutes without noticing. My mind was everywhere but there.

Sco!!!! Hi from the BEST state ever! And I daydream sometimes too, but not all the time.....

Okay I have nothing useful to add....
