Traveling Europe This Summer!

Yes, although they moved to Birkenhead when they got married so I'm a Birkonian not a Scouser.

Did you see either the Everton Superlambanana or the penguin when you were over? If not, I might have some photos for you...

I have mannnyyy photos of Superlambanana's! I even have an adorable mini royal blue superlambanana on my desk at work!

My dad, being semi-retired, made it a personal mission to photograph as many as possible. I hope everybody else is googling SLBs!
What countries are on your railpass? I'll put in a tiny vote for Poland.

Yes, so my Eurorail pass covers Italy, France and Benelux....so those are the main countries we will be visiting besides England and Ireland. I'll have to make it to Poland next time! 🙂

I would love to go backpacking, I'd visit everything 😀

Have Fun! 😀

Well since your railpass already includes Belgium, why not drop by?

To put it in Buffyspeak:
Xander: So where were you? Did you go to Belgium?
Buffy: Why would I go to Belgium?
Xander: I think the relevant question is, why wouldn't ya? Belgium.
(Me: You tell her Xand-man!)
XD
But, all sarcasm and randomality aside:

It's a nice place to be and other main european cities such as Paris, London and Amsterdam are only about 2hrs away by train from Brussels.

We Belgians are friendly people, you can easily get by in English, there's some really cool places to visit and our food is amazing! (and that's apart fromt he chocolate and waffles, mind you!)
Depending on wether or not I can get some time off I wouldn't mind showing you around for a day or two!

Things to see in my little country:
  • Brussels, Brussels is very international and very Belgian at the same time.
  • Bruges as mentioned before by sisterofmercy, it's lovely, cute, romantic and it has a chocolate museum.
  • Antwerp:awesome city to shop, spend a night out
  • Similar to Antwerp there's also,Gent. I'm only staring to discover this place myself and from July 16th to 25th they have a huge city wide cultural festival called 'de Gentse Feesten' which I've been dying to go to!

Speaking of festivals, as in most european countries, a lot of cities in Belgium have all kinds of fun activities and (music) festivals during the summer.

I'm sure there's more cool places to visit south of the language border in Belgium (nice hiking trips and quaint little villages galore), but I'm afraid the flemish part of the country is what I know best :s

Anyway, it all depends on what you're looking to do on your holiday you know, but most of the cities I've mentioned have a healthy mix of fun/history/sights/art/events/shopping/foodie stuff!

Apart from shamelessly promoting a trip to Belgium, some other tips for London and Paris:
  • if you like Modern art, be sure not to miss the Tate Modern in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris!
  • More museum tips for Paris: find out what you wanna see in the Louvre beforehand and go there right away, because it's too big to visit completely in one day.
  • I also particulary enjoyed Musée D'Orsay.
  • If you want to go and see a musical in London, sometimes it's worth it to just go there on the night itself and see if they have any tickets left. You might get lucky and get really good seats for a bargain! However if there's a show you'd really like to see I wouldn't risk that approach though...
  • Other cool things to do on a night out in London: Comedy clubs!
  • Eating in Paris: check out Quartier Latin, near Notre Dame!
  • Just spend an evening walking along the banks of the Seine, great atmosphere!
um... yeah... I *think* I'm done... (well not really I love travelling so I could go on ...and on....and on...😉 )

Thanks Raiys! I'm actually really advocating for Belgium so its a big possibility! I would love to see the sights with ya! :)
You are going to have SO MUCH FUN! I haven't been to most of the places you're going. All I can add is Germany, Austria, and Switzerland are freaking awesome to visit!!

I used to live in Camden and loved it down there. If you are planning on doing London and Dublin I would also suggest Edinburgh as well but i'm biased. It is a truly amazing city, if not just for the fact that there is a castle in the centre of town.

I love Castles!!

Edinburgh is fab at Christmas and Hogmanay, the fairy lights on all the trees and the winter wonderland. As I said, i'm biased, I live there. However if you are travelling around July/August then there is the Fringe Festival which everyone must see at least once. In fact Tom Lenk is doing a show here this year.

Why don't you come to Croatia? Although, we're really away from your plan 😛
