This is what happens when you make kids go look at art. They destroy it! This 12-year-old Taiwanese child was visiting the exhibition "Faces of Leonardo: Images of Genius" in Taipei when he accidentally tripped — drink in hand — and punched a hole into a $1.5 million dollar Italian still-life painting. The painting, Flowers, by Paolo Porpora, was painted in about 1660 and is apparently the only one the artist actually signed. Fortunately, the exhibition curator said that the painting was insured and the child won't be expected to pay for restoration costs, but that he's definitely grounded for at least the rest of the summer.

But the thing is, they said "the painting was insured and the child won't be expected to pay for restoration costs" I never would have thought they would have made the kid of the parents pay for it. That thought never crossed my mind. That would suck if you were a 12 year old that had to pay for restoration costs.

Okay I did giggle at the guy falling. Not a good way to become internet famous. But seriously, its the fault of the exhibition foe not protection such an expensive piece a little bit better.

...and since when are drinks allowed in such a place.

I would not describe what the kid did as deliberately punch the painting, he fell onto it. That does not make him a hooligan in my mind. I do agree with Blaze, the museum should have protected the artwork better.
