A friend of mine has a Trojan Virus in her computer and asked me to fix it as she's not really a computer person. Any ideas to what software actually removes them other than the ones that claim they do and then don't?

Do you know which virus it is? Some of the anti-virus sites like Norton/Symantec and, I believe, McAfee have specific downloadable virus removal tools.

Other than that, has she got an anti-virus program onboard? If so, do a full scan - having made sure it's been fully updated with virus definitions first. I've heard AVG's program is good, plus free for personal use ( AVG site)

If it's disabled the PC do you have an anti-virus rescue disk? Like the one I created with Norton anti-virus. You can use that to safely re-start the PC and run a check.

I agree - AVG is the best one to use..I have it on my comp and it gets rid of the viruses
Thanks, i've had other suggestions too, don't have time to sort it at the mo as I have to go to work so will wait till sunday when I have free rain when she's out. Note i''m fixing it so I can use it till I get my line back 😉

It is still useable at the mo she can still use the net, but when you open up My Docs you can't see anything and then a black screen comes up saying there is a virus and then you hit enter and it goes away. So answer away and i'll pick up all the advice on sunday when i'm back on and sit with coffee and Buffy dvds and have a crack at it.

at Mcafee.com, you can download this device called "Stinger" which finds and removes viruses and trojans that are current threats 😀
