Troy

I saw Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom and Kevin Bana (?) on Oprah today...no, I don't usually watch her, but I wanted to see if there were any good clips of the movie...It looks really good, but I'm really hoping they stick to the script of the original Iliad. I'm having the same types of doubts I originally had for LoTR before it first came out (and I was way wrong). We'll see, I guess!

I think that its Eric Bana isnt it??
oh well i cant wait to go and see it. its coming out sometime this month (lol cant remember what date). I think that it looks pretty good (and it has Orlando Bloom in which is always a plus lol 😉)

Can't wait to see either, we learned so much about the Troyan war in Greek and Latin classes, so I know the whole story by heart and I'd love to see it acted out (especially by these gorgeous guys)... however I, like Killerdwarf, hope they stick to the original script... which appearantly, they won't, that is to say... in the movie they'll focus more on Paris and Helen and Achilles vs. Hector and guys like Oddyseus have mere supporting roles.

I have seen the trailer and the film looks wicked...Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt look really hot..!🙂

Yes it was Eric Bana 🙂 I watched it too..probably the first Oprah I've ever seen. I felt gipped that Orli was not there, only on a pre-recorded message, but he is so funny!

omg,I have to see it..Orlando AND Brad ...dear god!*faints at the thought of seeing them both in one film*

I know doesn't it look good? I saw Brad on opera too, but I missed the clip w/ Orlando, I was really mad. I think they will focus more on the love story aspect of it, but it should be good anyway...how could it not be w/ Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom?!

I'm not that hyped about Troy for some reason. I'll still probably see it, if only to see Brad Pitt in a skirt.

haha yeah, Brad in a skirt. He was talking about that on opra and how it was a bit "breezy" lol

I can see that, 'cat, and it would be a real shame. If you read the Iliad, you'll soon see that Homer didn't like Paris or Helen all that much...he makes some very pointed comments about adulterers and hospitality-abusers. And I fear that "the best of the Achaeans (Greeks)" will be relegated to the sidelines, totally ignored or absorbed into Achilles's role...that'd be Diomedes. The way he is portrayed will tell the tale for me. He's definitely my favourite character in the story, and if he's missing, it'll be a shame. Odysseus as well. The Greeks prized his strategic skills as much as they did Achilles's fighting ability, and if all his contributions end up being only a mention of the "big bloody horse" that will really be a mark aganist the film. I guess we'll all have to wait and see!

Thanks, girls, for the assist...Eric Bana, Kevin Bana, whatever...I just hope he plays Hector like he should be played...an honourable man who is done badly by some vengeful gods...

I'd be real surprised if you saw any of that kind of character development in Troy. Troy is not going to be The Iliad. Achilles was in the shadows most of the book in the Iliad. In Troy it look like it's all about Achilles. In the Iliad it's insinuated Achilles is bi-sexual, and he wants the slave girl more as a status symbol than for reasons of affection. Troy looks like it wants to play the slave girl thing up as some kind of love story.

There's no Trojan Horse in The Iliad.

I'm not expecting any kind of Lord of the Rings quality either. I think the most we can hope for is something like Gladiator - kind of a hack n slash, World Wrestling in ancient times, pseudo epic.

Personally I prophesize it will stink, and it will make lots of money, just like Gladiator.

I can't wait to see this. I think I'm going to go tomorrow when it comes out. I'm all about the Greek myths and having Orli, Brad Pitt, and Eric Bana on the same screen is just amazing🙂

EDIT: Just got back from seeing the movie. It was amazing. The fight sequences were incredible. Lots of blood and guts...if you're into that kind of thing. It was a great movie for anyone. There was romance, but not too much, lots of shirtless and pantless Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt for the ladies🙂, and fighting for the guys. The movie was about 2 hrs. and 45 mins, so you have to be able to sit for that long. Some parts dragged out longer than others, but everything was essential to telling the story. Eric Bana, who played Hector, was great. Some of the accents were a little shakey, but overall you didn't notice it too much. The stunts were awesome. Overall, it was one of the best I've seen this year. A definite must see.

I'm a bit too lazy to type out all my thoughts about this movie again, so I'll just re-post my review of it, which I typed out Thursday-night for the affiliated Britpack-board

Forget about Middle-Earth... Troy is the place to be now!

My country is among the lucky ones to have Troy released today already, and I off course went to see its very first screening at the local cinema. Here are my thoughts.

THE GOOD

Eric Bana: He played his character of Hector with so much intensity, it's hard to describe, but he really stole the show. Off course, he was lucky enough to have a likeable and respectable character.

The Acting: Overall it was great, but there are a few people in particular I should shed my light on apart from the above mentioned. Briand Cox as George W. Bush, I mean Elliad Sharon, uhm no Yasser Arafat oh darnit, no.. it was Achamemnon, wow was that guy really evil and a real megalomaniac. Peter O'Tool, who played Priamos very convincing... he really grasped what the character was about.

Skin: We got to see Orlando and Eric's bare torsos... and well let's just say there isn't much Mrs. Pitt has seen that we couldn't see in this movie. And Diana Kruger (Helen) went topless, though they cut the screen just above the nipples, so it was very teasing! (Orlando, lucky *******!)

the Message: I am especially impressed by how strongly this movie sends out its message. Some people have acused this movie of being a shameless patriotistic advertisement for the Bush-administration... those people must have seena a different movie. It sends out a clear message that in war there are no victerors, there are no good and no wrong parties.

THE BAD

Brad Pitt: His acting was of a reasonable level, but compared to the others doing such a great job, his performance was a bit off. Also he is getting older, he tried to make up by showing a lot of sking, but up close his face is starting to ressemble Tommy Lee Jones.

Legolas: After having had us fooled for the first 100 minutes with his new hair cut and the plastic surgeory on his ears, when Orlando's character of Paris picked up the bow again, it became painfuly clear that we were in fact watching Legalos in disguise.

Story: The story is great, don't get me wrong, but they changed some things for the movie, which is too bad... but I guess one movie really isn't enough to tell the whole tale. (I'll write you a summary of the whole story soon.)

CONCLUSION

Great epic movie, much better then LotR IMO. You should definitely go and see this movie. I rate it 10/10!

I'm gonna go see Troy tomorrow for Latin. I heard that the gods don't have as big a role as they do in the Illiad and such,...which for me was a big draw since I like the gods. I was a little saddened to hear that, but maybe it'll still be good. i hope so...
eh i figured they'd romance it up and do the straight thing but....
even if it sucks, it gets me out of school for a day. 😀 always a plus.

I saw the movie yesterday. Good.
-There was lots of Brad Pitt yummyness.
-I didn't care much for Helen or Paris.
-Yes, it does mirror the war in Iraq, Bush, etc.
-Eric Bana did a great job. You're forgiven for giving us The Hulk, Eric!
Grade: B
