* Reposting this for eset because I messed up by trying to merge his old thread in with the new. Sorry hon! Let me know if I didn't do the poll right. *

-----

This is a repeat thread, but the poll on the other one was closed accidentally in the move:

Okay, I know the writers are pushing us to root for Tru, and I may be alienating the entire community with this one, but...

Is Tru really right in saving all those people?

What about the people that are hurt because of what Tru does to save the corpse who asked for her help?

Did they deserve to pay the price for someone else's defeat of death?

Thanks

Thanks Buffy Summers!

I tried to make a new one but it got messed up, so feel free to delete it (the one without elec's comments).

The poll is fine, thanks for the help!!

Well,Tru knows she can save all those people. Should she save them?.I really don't know. Some people might have wanted to die,but after Tru saved them, they didn't complain.
Tru thinks that helping all those people is her responsability. She just can't sit at home eating popcorn while someone is dieing and she can save them. She has a gift to help people,I don't think she should waste it.

I agree with mags she has a gift to save people to give them another chance at life...she doesnt have to do it but she does it and i say good for her...

Thanks Candi😉.

Oh,another thing to point out; how would you feel if you know that a person died and you had the chance to save them?. (I'd feel like Angel in 1997 lol...Sorry for that TCers, couldn't help it😛).

Hmmm....I wondereed about this for a long time, but I think that she is right in saving them. Why else would she relive the day? It happens for a reason; why would they ask for help if she was not meant to save them.

In "The Longest Day" (it might have been "The Getaway"), Davis says that he believes some people are meant to die, and some people are meant to lead to the deaths of others. Just something to think about.

Also, another way of looking at this: is what Tru does any more or less than a doctor or police officer saving a life on a normal day?

That is true. That's why not every person asks Tru to save them. The only ones that ask for her help are the ones who shouldn't have died in the first place.

It's totally different. Tru knows that those people died, she also knows that she has the chance to save them. Her gift is nothing like a cop's duty.

I don't know. I mean they are both having repeat days for a reason. I just think Jack is there to balance it out. Maybe Tru isn't meant to save everyone, so Jack is there to screw her up every once in while. I mean you can't save everyone. Maybe certain bodies aren't meant to ask for help, they should have just stayed dead. Oh that probably doesn't even make sense.

I think they both have the same power, but think about it differently. jack believes they are meant to die...so he makes sure they dies...while Tru believes they are meant to live if they ask her for help....two people....two opinions...same power...they just use it differently...just my idea...

...not everyone asks her...so wouldn't you think that the people who do ask are meant to be saved?

No I don't mean it like that. Just never mind that.

Yea i get they both have the same power but why? Do they really need two? It doesn't make sense that they were both meant to help people. It just happened that Tru's dad also thought the same way as Jack and Tru's mom thought the same way as Tru. I don't think its a coincidence.

"It's not just supernatural theory, its scientific fact. From eastern philosephy to Newton's thrid law of motion--they all say the same thing: that every force has an equal and opposite force."
--Davis, "DOA"

Maybe its not possible for one of them to be right and one of them to be wrong--maybe they're both simply forces of nature, like storms or volcanoes. They both alter the world, maybe for the better, maybe not, but aren't inherently anything.

Agreeing with eset on this one...them reliving days...and choosing to do what they will with it....all just keeping the balance...it's not necessarily right or wrong...just the universe fixing it's own mistakes maybe...Tru chooses to do one thing with her power...so Jack is there to do the opposite...to keep the balance...again...two people...same power...two opinions of that power...

i think she's right in savethose people..cuz if she shouldn't suppose to be doing it she wouldn't have the gift for it i believe that a balance is require in everything so maybe the point is that she's meant to save some and let die some others cuz that's the way teh world works, she can't save everybody

But if you believe Tru is meant to save the people just because she has this gift, then is Jack meant to stop her? If the gift itself is a mandate to do what one feels is right, then Jack has just as much of a responsibility to stop Tru as Tru has to perservere

exactly! the balance is require in any aspect, goodand evil, right and wrong, jack will win sometimes and tru some others, they both have a responsability like her father and her mother did but...i do believe that what tru's father did was unfair, sent kill his own wife

What about fate, though?

Either 1) the people who ask for Tru's help are meant to be saved or 2)they were meant to die. In the first case, there is no reason for Jack to be there, and in the second case there is no reason for either of them to have the power. Basically this seems to be more of a craps shoot than any predestined plan, there are just too many holes.

I hope they plug at least some of them before next season ends.

Ok I have given a lot of thought to this, "some might say too much" but I have a belief that Tru is good or at least she is more good than Jack.
The way I see it if and only if Davis' (or more precisely Einsteins) theoy is correct which is that every force in the universe has an equal opposite force, I think what I just said was a contradiction but you know what I mean. Also for my theory to work then I am making the assumption that there are higher powers or beings giving superpowers to people like Tru.
So heres the way I see it Jack would not have his powers if Tru didnt have hers because there would be no need unless he was to sort out messes made naturally within the universe.
So this means that the higher powers/fate or whatever must have given Tru her powers so she could save people and be a hero whereas Jack was given his powers in order to keep balance within the universe, in other words to ensure there are no anomalous forces in the universe.
This then means that really what Tru is doing is indeed the right thing however this does not mean Jack is in the wrong he can't suddenly turn like Tru and start saving people because then he would no longer be an opposite force, he wouldnt be the ying to her yang he would be the yang to her yang, if you get what i mean
However he could stop ensuring people died, this would mean he was still an opposite force in the universe he just wasn't very active therefore fulfilling the higher powers will by letting Tru save people.
However this theory is based upon two necessary conditions and will only work if both of them are met so there is sufficietnt evidence to support my theory.

So I know this is lot to swallow and I'm sorry for the kind of formailty of it but I am trying to practice my essay writing for philosophy, tell me what you think, do you have any theories, can you find any criticisms within my theory or do you agree with it?

But if the universe is constantly increasing in entropy (chaos), then aren't we trying to attribut order to something that is, in its very nature, disorderly?
