True Blood *Possible Spoilers*

So DH and I started watching. We've gotten to the point where Bill went before the Magistrate or whatever, and the girl, and the sentence. (don't wanna spoil it for anyone else)

Ha. I've been so convinced that Sam was the killer... DH and I knew there was something up with the dog though, from the beginning. It was just weird.

I like Bill. I think he's stupid in some ways. Like going and killing Bartlett. But for the most part, I like him. As DH says... if Mr. Darcy was a vampire, and a southerner living in a redneck town, he'd be Bill. 😉

Although I think I like Anna Paquin better as a brunette. It took us like 3 episodes to realise we knew her as Rogue... But for the most part, so far True Blood's interesting. I don't like it as much as Buffy and I'm not gonna sit around and rewatch episodes randomly like I do with Buffy or Angel... but it's interesting.

ya know.. THERE is such a thing as SPOILER ALERT! OH MY WORD
I heard from a friend that the books are very different to the TV adaptions? Is that true? I don't want any details, but I was thinking of reading the books too.

So far, yes, the books are slightly different (I've only seen the pilot). I LOVE the books; I'm halfway through the second one right now and grabbing any extra time I have to read a few more paragraphs. I liked the pilot also. So we'll have to see; I'll let you know if I begin despising the show in the next couple of episodes. 🙂

Sorry for the double posty-ness, but I'm watching episode 3 ("Mine"), and Sam just said, "Aw, damn. Starbucks is comin' to Marthaville. You know what I wish would come to Marthaville? Buffy."

LOL!

Best. Quote. Ever.!
I just got into this show three days ago and just got done watching the 1st season. I enjoyed it and cant wait for the 2nd to come. But throughout the 12 episodes they kept on killing off charecters that I liked which sucked.

I finished reading the boxed set yesterday and I have one episode left to go in the series and I was ABOUT to get all depressed until I realized that Charlaine Harris hasn't stopped writing; the boxed set is just what she'd written up to that point! So here in a few minutes I'm going to go up to the bookstore and get the next one, then begin my usual slavering impatience for the next one in the series.

Anyone read Misery? That would totally be me if I was, you know, insane . . . er. 😀

I love this show. I'd rather Bill and Sookie date than Sookie and Sam. A human/vampire romance is more interesting than human/shapeshifter romance.

^ You wouldn't be saying that if you'd read the books. . . . >.< That's kind of the fun part; the writers OBVIOUSLY read all of the available books before tackling the scripts, and they've worked in subtleties and backstory that you don't find out about until the 3rd or 4th book. They did a REALLY good job fleshing out the world and hinting at things to come, but at the same time, even though I dislike Bill for actions that I know are coming, I really like the way he's portrayed. I wasn't too sure, at first, but he's grown on me.

AND the last book is only out in hardcover. It won't be in paperback until MARCH. Grumble, grumble.

After two and a half days of watching, I've finished the first season, and I have one thing to say...WOW. I absolutely love it, and it just keeps getting better...the last two episodes were definitely the best of the season. The only problem is, I don't know if I can wait for season 2. They basically spent the last 10 minutes of the finale setting it up, and they had so many loose ends to tie up. For instance,
what is the deal with Maryann?! I sort of got the impression that she was a shapeshifter, since she and Sam seemed to know each other, but that wouldn't explain why she puts on that "good samaritan" act.

I had two big problems with it, though. First off,
HOW COULD THEY KILL LAFAYETTE?! I'm still hoping he isn't dead, since he brings so much to the show, but he wasn't the "two weeks later" flash-forward and it seemed to be his feet sticking out of Andy Bellefleur's car. The next thing was the whole "Jason is a born-again Christian" plot. I just don't buy it. Besides, there's already enough tension between him and Bill...this is just taking it too far.

Oh, also, I love Eric and Jessica. They need more screen time in season 2.

It was a good finale. I want to like Bill, I really do. I just don't think that he knows how to live with humans completely...
Poor Lafayette... that was so not fair. Lafayette brought so much spice and fun and smiles...

But yeah, now I have to wait to find out what happens. What I liked about watching Buffy and Angel was that I didn't have to wait, I could just watch and it'd all be done. 😉
But Maryann is bugging me. I have this feeling that she is just evil as evil is... She's too nice, she really is... And I can't figure out what she wants with Tara.
And anyway, I do ship Tara/Sam very much. Now if Sam would just tell Tara about the dog thing... 😛

now i get it! i thought you meant was i sure about the tomatos! you meant the clan. lol.. well.. depends on who you listen to.. but i try to drown that talk out.
*claps hands over mouth*

I've read all the books. I know where this is going. I know who these people are (or will be) (except Marianne--I think I know who she is, but I'm not 100% sure yet), and I know what happens with Sookie and Bill--and YOU GUYS DON'T! So I can't say anything about it!

That said, I can't WAIT for S2.

Hmmm haven't read the books, been meaning to find them... but i do enjoy the show.

Maryann... hahaha i loved her in BSG so i was pleased the actor was playing a part.

I have no idea where the show is going but is she a Siren? the whole Homer mythology of turning men into pigs? kinda fits... i dunno its a theory.

Would fans of the books say its good to read the books now or watch the show and read them later? Just looking up the books last time told me the Sam secret lol

Hehe, I didn't know she was in BSG... I knew her from Star Trek: TNG...
I like having read the books because I feel I'm catching nuances that those who haven't read them wouldn't. There's a lot going on in the show that didn't happen in the books, but since the books are told in 3rd person, there's no saying that some of it didn't happen and we just didn't get to see it. So there's still a lot of surprises, even having read the books. I definitely think it's worth it.

Has anybody read both the Sookie Stackhouse books, and the Twilight books? How do they compare, quality wise?

I haven't read Twilight and don't plan to. But I'd say that the Harris novels far outstrip Twilight for quality.
I just finished the series the other day, I really liked it. I didnt see the end coming at all! I duno how to do the spoiler tag things so I wont mention too much. I found Bill to be really charismatic in the beginning. And Jason Stackhouse is great hehe I dont care how dumb he is, he should come and live with me. What exactly are the names of the books and what order are they in? I've heard a few names thrown round and Im kinda confused. I just wana know what happens!

I got you covered, Aussie:
Dead Until Dark
Living Dead in Dallas
Club Dead
Dead to the World
Dead as a Doornail
Definitely Dead
All Together Dead

And there's a new one in hardback that I can't remember the title of. You can probably find those in a boxed set; I got mine that way. In some ways they're better than the series, but they're in first person, so you only ever see what's happening with Sookie.

Thanks Blondie!! You rock! :D
I just finished watching the first season and I enjoyed it very much. I, like Aussie don't know how to do the spoiler tags so I won't go into too much detail for those that haven't seen it, but I think Bill is too much of a nice guy to be a vamp - he's way too much of a Southern gentleman.

I liked the way the episodes flowed into one another as well - with the first scene in the new episode continuing straight on from the final scene in the previous - that was I thought a very neat touch.

I kind of liked the relationship aspect of Sookie and Bill and the way that she had to invite him into the house ala Buffy but I kept on expecting a vamp to show up at some point and go all medieval on the locals.

Season 2 will be interesting I think.
