Question True Blood / Southern Vampire Series?

Just wondering if anyone here reads the Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris and if so, will you be watching the new TV show 'True Blood' based on the books & adpated for TV by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under)?

Alan Ball, creator of Six Feet Under, returns to HBO with a new series based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris. The series follows Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read. She and her brother Jason were raised by her grandmother after losing their parents in a flood and she tries to keep her telepathic ability a secret. Thanks largely in part to the creation of a Japanese-made synthetic blood called True Blood (where the series takes it name) vampires have make their existence known to the world. Sookie works at the bar 'Merlotte's' which is owned and operated by her boss Sam Merlotte who has a secret of his own.

I was introduced to the show, which premieres Sept 7th on HBO by Buffy Summers, and from there I bought myself the books, managed to get the first 3 for 99p off eBay, and then also got the next few in the series as well. 🙂

HBO are going to a hell of alot of trouble to advertise this! 😀
 
Just my luck, we no longer have HBO or any of the premium channels. maybe it'll come out on dvd eventually and I'll get to see it that way.
 
Sookie Stackhouse (yes, imagine the old Bondish naming conventions) is quite funny.
I did enjoy the books.
Looking forward to the show.
 
I've really enjoyed the books - trouble is I've read them that quickly that I've been reading them one a night, or a little bit more, and now Im struggling to get hold of the last two!

Let's just say that the show looks very promising indeed and it's definitely not one to have around with younger children either! It's one of the shows I'm most looking forward to seeing in the autumn.

dont read them, ive seen some of the pilot of the show, kinda got a bit into it but i'm so used to whedon rules for vampires
 
I have several of these at home to read and haven't started them yet. I got caught up in another series, have been scrambling for months to catch up with it. Thankfully, I'm almost caught up, I think I only have 2 or 3 more to go, then I can start something else. LOVE that there's another vampire show coming, but WHY do they always have to be on premium channels? Alas, I don't have HBO! Arrrrrgh!

It's based on the Southern Vampire Books by Harris.

With the main character's name as Sookie you can't help but think how inappropriate it is for a heroine's name as Buffy is.
It's got vamps, weres, psychics and all kinds of mystical goodies.
 
Yep, still looking forward to this - I just got 'Defnitely Dead' & 'All Together Dead' to read, so only have 'From Dead to Worse' to go then - until she writes more, which she plans to do. 😀

I think or hope that the show will be really good and will do justice to the books, I also like the fact that it's got it's own vampire mythology too.
