Trunky want a bun?

Why have I never heard this till now.. I had no idea what she meant when said 'trunky want a bun?' Wow... So is this a common phrase in general or is it just an English thing? Is it even a common phrase there? Do you know it? Have you used it?

And I never heard tale of elephants liking buns?!? I thought it was peanuts...

A poem I was taught at school:

The common cormorant, or shag
Lays eggs inside a paper bag.
The reason, it would seem no doubt,
Is to keep the lightning out,
But what these unobservant birds
Have never noticed, is that herds
Of wandering bears may come with buns
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs.

But no, it's not in everyday usage. In children's books of a certain vintage you'll see stories about going to the zoo and feeding elephants currant buns, but I think this is rather frowned upon now that people have realised that there aren't actually any bun shops in the African savannah.
