TV shows that were cancelled too soon

Agent Carter (and AOS just keeps on going...).

I don't think Agent Carter has been officially cancelled, but Hayley Atwell has taken on a substantial role in another show which may affect the next season being filmed.

Needless to say, they could never recast it. HA is brilliant in the role, so if they can't work it out I expect it will be cancelled, which is really sad. 🙁

No offense to anyone here, but don't think a show should be considered cancelled too early if it was on for 5 or more seasons.
A few shows off the top of my head:
Once & Again
Firefly
Joan of Arcadia
Freaks & Geeks
My So Called Life
Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles
Sports Night
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

Skanky Vamp

freaks & geeks.. yes.

Yes to Sarah Connor. Forgot about that.

I think it depends. If a show is planned let's say for a 7 season arc, and gets cancelled at season 6 so we don't get the proper end, I would count it as ending too early.

Deadwood
Carnivale
John from Cincinatti
Jericho
Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
Murder One
Freaks & Geeks
Dead Like Me
Invasion (i loved that show)
The Black Donnellys
The Lone Gunmen
Millennium
Rome
Alphas

I enjoyed alphas til I heard it was cancelled so never bothered to finish watching it

Jericho is the first one that springs to mind, especially considering the scope of where the show was headed! I've just finished rewatching it and can't believe the 2nd season is only 7 episodes. I love it so. Hawkins is the man.

I couldnt believe it was only 7 even when you said it.. seemed like it was more. It was an awesome show, and honestly it was ahead of its time. A show like Jericho coming out now would get rave reviews and last forever.

I thought Jericho was still going actually. They are showing it in the UK now. Must be repeats?

There is a drama on TV in the UK called Jericho but it's not the American show, that ended in 2008.

Jericho would thrive on Netflix nowadays, it's a perfect show to binge on.
What they managed to do with Beck's character in season 2 really impressed with the amount of time they had. Very well cast, as were the rest.

My So Called Life

Oh how I adored that show.

I would agree. A show can be cancelled too early regardless of how many seasons it has if the overall story arc is just stopped with no conclusion, but generally the vast majority of 'cancelled too soon' shows would be defined by having one or two seasons and then cancellation.

Yes! That is why I was surprised it was only 7 episodes. They really told a full story with character arcs and all. You dont really get writing as tight as that even today. Honestly. It was movie-quality in a TV form.

But that was why the first season of House of Cards (US) was so good, and why subsequent seasons fell off.

'I feel like I've watched a movie' was my line the other night when I watched the Getz/Bonnie/Stanley stuff over a couple of episodes. It has that magic.

The raw emotion sideswipes you too, all of a sudden you're in a puddle on the floor shouting 'why?!', and wishing they would leave the rug under your feet. Highly recommended for those who haven't seen it yet!

The UK Jerico is a different show entirely. Less post-apocalyptic, more about building a viaduct in 19th century Yorkshire. No kidding.
It's actually not bad- I thought the set-up was more 'Wild West in the North' (there's a shanty town that springs up to cater for the navies building the viaduct) but its more soap-y than than.

My boyfriend is so angry about Space: Above and Beyond being cancelled he has asked me to mention it in this thread. Never seen it, pal!

That's the show where Joss got the idea of Hush from... it was not a bad show.. took a while to get going but really underrated. The 'bad guy' that put the bomb in the kid in the last season of Angel was one of the stars of the show.

Bluebird

Oh yeah I remember him, I had that pointed out to me when we watched Angel together the first time!
Also, My Mad Fat Diary.

Great show all about growing up in the 90s in the UK, with a really realistic portrayal (so I'm told) of dealing with mental health issues. Banging soundtrack too.

My automatic answer to this is always Firefly and Freak and geeks.

When after some thinking I'll hopefully remember:
My so-called life
Tru Calling
Dollhouse
Veronica Mars (Ok, the third season isn't the best but I want more!)
And some more that I clearly don't remember at this point...

Speaking of Freaks ad geeks I wouldn't have minded more of Undeclared. No the trailer doesn't do it justice.

Undeclared was good but I just couldnt help but compare it to F&G.
