TV Xander or Season Eight Xander?

I, for one, LOATHED Xander on the show. Especially in Season Three, Five, and Six.

But now that I'm reading the Season Eight comics, I actually like the character.

What do y'all think?

Xander was my favorite of the scoobies. I adored him on t.v. i still like his character in 8 because i think it's fairly true to him on the show. But of course i miss on screen Xander because i miss Nick!
 
I didn't much like Xander in the Long Way Home, to be honest. It didn't really seem like the same guy. Wolves at the Gate, however (which I've just read), is much better, and I'm actually liking him for the first time in pretty much ever.
 
I haven't read the comics, but from what I've heard, I think for me it won't make a difference. I quite liked Xander on TV, and appearantly, the comics are, in his case, quite close to his TV character. Which is good.
 
I liked him on the show, although he was too often relegated to being a one-liner machine, and occasionally whining about being the only one of the group with no special powers or knowledge, apart from first-rate carpentry work.

He's become much more comfortable with himself in Season Eight, I think, and maximizing his usefulness while still bringing the funny.

The Renee Incident, while powerfully written, has to rank as my Least Favorite Moment in season 8. I know life isn't fair, but it should be fair sometimes, shouldn't it?
 
Xander was never my favorite character on Buffy. But on the other hand, I didn't hate him either. He was a regular. Funny, cute, loveable (to me anyway). It's like Willow actually. Didn't mind them there, didn't want them to die, they're part of the gang.

Now, I haven't read the comics past volume 5, got tired of it. But from what I have read, I didn't reallt like Xander's character. He just wasn't him. Not the Xander I used to know. That's another reason I stopped reading. The character weren't themselves, the scene wasn't Buffy, the storyline, etc. So I just think it's a shame.

Exactly what I thought. (Cept the Willow bit. 😉 ) Until I got to Wolves at the Gate. THAT was Buffy.
 
I like him in both. I think his character in S8 is a natural development to his character on the show, have you seen S7? Xander had accepted his place in the group and in S8 he worked on getting more useful.
 
I never cared much for Xander on the show, but in the comics he's great. Really someone you to relate to.
 
I kinda like the Season 8 Xander better, since he lost all of the excess lard and went all "Soldier Bob" with the commando sweaters, the BDU pants, and the combat boots. If you've got an eye patch, you might as well exploit it, and the wardrobe he chose was a whole lot better than his original idea of a pirate suit and parrot.
