And seriously. OK, I only read the first book, but it's still enough to gain an opinion! I think it was crappy, and therefore I don't feel like wasting more of my time on the other books. *shrugs*

ha, when twilight had just came out (book)
i couldnt stand it, i was like omg what is this obsession over bloody twilight, it actually annoyed me, how everyone went on and on about it,
then my friend forced me to read it, and i fell in love with it.
i hated the film, if i had watched the film first, i would have never read the books. i would of been like
what a load of crap :L


i dont see how people can hate it, if your like me, that you hate things that everybody likes, just for the sake of being different,
i do always disagree with things that everybody likes. but i actually gave this book a chance.

Personally, I think just makes people look foolish, and it seems there are a few fools in this thread.

That's cool. :shrug: Your respect doesn't make or break me in any form, so you're free to think whatever you want. As I stated before, my reasons for hating it are my own, and I also explained why I wasn't going to delve into it. I'm cool with leaving it the way it is, because public opinion doesn't mean a whole helluva lot to me to begin with.

I also said I don't hate it just for the sake of hating it. Feel free to not believe me.

I read the books. I liked the books. Perhaps I'm not ask picky as most.

I didn't see any horrible writing, but I like adjectives. I need books that I can feel like I can see things. I'm much more visual than anything else.
Then again, I wasn't expecting it to be life changing or anything more than something fun to read. And, I had fun, so it worked out nicely.

I have little problem with "forbidden love" or even Bella leaving her family. I mean, so did Juliet and she's all "cool" as far as "great literature" goes. And in the end, she DIDN'T really leave her whole life behind. And at least she felt something about it and not just running off and not caring as many people do these days.
I don't really see that as being a bad role model. But, maybe I give teenagers too much credit to remember that this is a story and if they should meet and fall in love with a "vegetarian" vampire then they will use their own judgement.
Heck, I wish more teenagers thought of all the angles the way Bella did. I think if they took two seconds to think of their Dad or friends the way she at least attempted to, this world would be a better place.

Anywho, I didn't mind the sparkles. (Keep in mind, I'm only talking about the books here as I am very much not a movie fan.)

I find it impossible that SM didn't do ANY vampire research. Or at the very least, she knew a lot without having to research as she does touch on most of the major myths and explain them.
As far as the sparkling, I think it makes more sense than them crumbling in sunlight. That has never made sense to me. Neither does a stick to the heart.
So, in some ways, I think she either did a good job making a vampire that makes a WEE bit more sense than the "normal" ones. Or, if not MORE sense, she did a good job explaining WHY in a way that didn't leave me going "Uh? How does that work?"

Granted, they didn't change my life or my outlook on it. But, I could only see mormon or other undertones after other people started talking about them. For the most part, it was just a story and not the worst I've read.
Plus, the certainly have pretty covers.

The movie, I hope they make them better from now on. That was just sad.

I just want to agree and say YES YES YES to this comment. I have read all four books AND seen the movie and have desided, after much critical though, that I dislike the series. End of story. Nothing to write home about.

And that is absolutely fine! At least you gave it a chance! 🙂 I have no problem with someone who reads it and/or watches the movie and then decides they don't like it. That is fine and dandy. I just can't stand it when people say they hate something without trying it first. Like my daughter when she cries and says "But I hate cauliflower!" when she's never even eaten it. GRR. LOL

Exactly. No problem if you gave the books a shot and they just aren't your cup of tea but blind hate from what you've read on the net is absolutely unneccessary. Don't care about them - sure, no problem. But hating something you didn't even try? No.

I've read the books, enjoyed and liked them. They're a guilty pleasure and I must admit they do have a certain potential for mocking, but they were fine.
The worst thing about the books isn't the books themselves, the mormon undertones - there are books with Christian, atheist or [insert any religion here] undertones, so why not mormon? - or Meyers affinity for adjectives but the crazy fangirls who do believe that Edward is the perfect man when he certainly is not. I seriously am worried for them. I liked him fine in the first book but after that it gets crazy.
I thought teenaged girls were more intelligent than that but after I checked some Twilight sites and communities out, I'm not that sure anymore.
Aaand a great plus is, Edward and Bella talk about sex. Albeit not after marriage/vamping, but they talked about it. Not many young adult romance books do that.
Me and my good friend Jägermeister are definitely going to reread the books soon 😉

Well I've finally seen the first of the four to be Twilight films and well Im a little half and half on it but leaning more towards a liking than a disliking to it. I thought the way it was done very clever and putting a new spin on a tale of forbidden love. VERY different from the Buffy saga and I like that a lot. Bella and Edward as a couple are suited together down to a tee. I can see why people say the books are better though it did feel in places bits of the book were missing in the film.

Yes I've seen one deleted scene that didn't make it in to the book but when I think of the entire saga I can see it all fits together really well. Im definitely willing to give New Moon and the rest of the films a chance and so far I thought it was good. I think Twilight is a grower for any newcomers like myself who haven't read any of the books. 😀
