Bill Maher did his usual comedy routing on TV last night saying 48% of Brits voted for sense and sensibility and 52% for pride and prejudice. He was concerned that the vote was all about immigration and this meant that Trump might win in the US. But the situation is not the same. Trump wants to deport 11 million Mexicans who for the most part are integrating into American society without any risk whereas immigration from the Middle East now has a contingent of possible terrorists that the EU has been slow to address.

I will stand by what I said before: short-term pain for long-term gain. I doubt Brits working abroad in the EU will be sent home - loss of continuity at work would be worse than any satisfaction the EU could get from administering punishment. I doubt the EU will be able to punish Britain without shooting themselves in the foot because Britain has the biggest trade deficit with the EU. Canada is probably going to suspend the pending European trade pact because we do not know if the EU is going to continue. There should be agreements between countries in Europe, but these agreements did net need to spawn another layer of government.

are undocumented and in the country illegally. None of the candidates proposed deporting immigrants who came to the country legally. Deportation of undocumented aliens has been on the incline since Clinton. It's been on the incline for the last 20 years, some of the candidates this year suggested we speed up the process.
 
According to the native Americans (which include some Mexicans), everyone else is in the US illegally. The inscription at the base of the Statue of Liberty says:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

I have known people who have tried to immigrate to the US (and Canada is no better) and the process may take 15 years. If you don't fix immigration, you might as well tear down the Statue of Liberty.

According to certain 'scientists' and politicians it will be underwater shortly anyway. Why pay for the manual labor to tear it down when we can just wait for the flood. The money spent tearing it down could be put to better use elsewhere.
 
One of the first things you learn in an economics class is that money is a coward. It runs from any confrontation. But money managers have to accentuate the volatility of the markets in order to enlarge the difference between high and low values so they can make more money. Then when something comes along that is not artificial, they all run around in a panic, as they did with the Brexit vote. An existing deal has been negated. New deals will have to supersede them. The only change is what we make it - new deals can be put in place quickly enough.

And same 'scientists' and politicians are so selfless that they don't even try to sell the beach houses short to make quick bucks.🙄
 
The most worrying thing I've noticed from real life accounts on Twitter is how emboldened the racists have become in ONE DAY and the abuse subjected to immigrants living and working in the UK, and even UK born citizens who are simply of a different race, being told "go back home". Sick. The large racist/fascist faction who based their leave vote purely on anti-immigration have become very vocal. They believe they've "won" and that all the non whites living in the UK should be deported in the next 48 hours.

I guess it's goodbye to my GP, my daughter's health visitor, my local shop owner, my friends, my neighbour and my fave Polish food shops. 🙁

I know nothing about UK politics, but this is what I've seen on social media and it's scary :(
What flood? The sea levels might rise 5 or so but they won't be an actual flood.

It's disgusting. This is what I feared the most. That the racists, the Britain Firsts and the xenophobes would win and come out of the woodwork.

Because not only does it taint the Leave Campaign as being a primarily racist campaign (and I'm sure that the vast majority of leave voters are not in any way racist), but it also paints the UK as a racist country and that's just not true.

If it's any consolation, as a woman, I rather be living in GB right now. Or In France should Le Pen win. I'm no racist by any means but I would definitely feel safer there than here in Germany. Our country is being turned into an Islamic state by our own Government. And the media control and surpression of information is even worse than what happened with you guys in GB.

But at least you got your Brexit peacefully. Here there is no way to change anything by voting since you can't overturn the major parties. But it's becoming more of a pressure cooker every month and this might well just end in blood.

If the ice shelves continue to melt at their present rate, yes, it might cause the sea to rise five feet...but as the weather grows warmer and warmer, the melting will increase. And the sea will rise about THIRTY feet.
 
But is it the height of the water level that counts or the friendship and trade of the people who are left?
 
I know that a few people left social media because of the abuse going around post the leave side winning, it's calmed down some now, but it's mainly now people posting about the abuse and how everyone is reacting to the results of the vote. I've only personally seen one person happy about the result.
