I might catch an episode here and there and do a half-hearted participation, but I don't think I'd be able to keep up with this right now. Plus I'm kind of going through a reading phase this summer while there's no new TV to watch.

Me too. I'm reading and watching Buffy - too bad I don't have a life or a job...

My boyfriend moved out so I'm sort of depressed and lonely too... *sigh

I've been looking for a job everyday, though...

What are you reading?

I'll keep up as much as I can but with working full-time and trying to make a huge dent in my thesis it could be few and far between. I really want to watch them though so I'll do my best 🙂

Aww man. I'm at 'Same Time, Same Place' of my Buffy marathon. I started buying Angel four seasons ago. I need one left, and I'm gonna start watching Angel right after my Buffy marathon is over. Next time I'll watch them in above order

Thoughts as I proceed;

It's weird. My response to S1 has always been that it's really cheesy and campy "“ but now that I'm re-watching it I have a newfound respect and love for it. It really is delightfully entertaining. And gotta love the 90s hair, leopard print, and 90s expressions like "boot it" and man, who even remembers James Spader?!

Continuity Glitch, "The Harvest"

The Master: A Slayer. Have you any proof?
Luke: Only that she fought me and yet lives.
The Master: Oh, very nearly truth enough. I can't remember the last time that happened.
Luke: 1843, Madrid.
The Master: Ahh"¦
Luke: He caught me sleeping.

It seems like he's implying that the Slayer at that time as a man, but I guess it could be a writing glitch. We know this cannot be correct because the Slayer is always female. Perhaps he's alluding to the fact that no one, just just a Slayer, has ever fought him and lived.

Discussion Questions Season 1: "The Harvest" and "Welcome to the Hellmouth."

1. Do you think Xander (either consciously or unconsciously) resented Buffy for being unable to save Jesse? He didn't really show any grief except for kicking a trash can and proclaiming his newly realized worldview on vampires. I mean, the guy ended up staking his own friend. That's got to leave some emotional scars. And, the same day he found out about vampires in the first place! My theory on his is that Xander was in denial, and he never really allowed himself to deal with what happened, which caused him to hold resentment towards Buffy in the long run.

AND"¦I can't believe I never saw this before! Giles says "The Earth is doomed" in "The Harvest" and in "Chosen!" God, I love Buffy. Always something new to notice ☺

2. What's up with Angel's extreme cockiness and David's bad acting? He'd been watching her for all this time, leading up to this final moment where he meets her. Where's his signature shyness? His endearing awkwardness? I see no Angel is these first two episodes. Only a distorted Angelus.

I wouldn't have protested with Jesse being kept around longer. He was actually pretty sexy as a vampire.

Little bit of forshadowing I picked up on:

Angel: "She did it I'll be damned."
Well, he is. But at this point, the audience doesn't know this fact 😉

I'll be watching Buffy all summer anyway

Yippee! Post your thoughts here as you watch. 😉

So, if anyone also didn't get that James Spader refereence in "Welcome to the Hellmouth", here he is:

Here's the dialouge:
Cordelia: So over. James Spader?
Buffy Summers: He needs to call me.

90s actor. He played that jerk in Pretty in Pink...

I thought we were starting from Buffy season 4 and Angel season 1????

I think it's to match up with Angel. When Buffy starts s4 Angel's show start. And they'll finish same time.

Well I was searching for something specific and came across this thread, seemed fitting since this is exactly what I'm doing. Besides work and figuring out my newish ferret, I've been watching Buffy and Angel a lot. I'm up to the end of season 5 right now, and I'm trying to get up to season 7 really quick to catch up with my sister. They're on disc 5 right now though, so I doubt I'll catch up 🙁

This time around, I've actually enjoyed certain scenes/characters/etc more than I have the previous few times I've watched Buffy. Riley is less hated, Glory is more loved, Dawn hasn't bothered me as much. I still couldn't stand Adam though, and doubt I'll ever really like him. The actor just wasn't bulk enough I guess. I wonder why they didn't get someone all roided out to play an extremely powerful military-man/demon hybrid?

Season 2 didn't hold up as well for me this time either. I wouldn't say I like it any less, but the other seasons have grown on me a lot more. Partly it's due to the frat house episode... as much as frat guys and drunkards annoy me, and as great as the metaphor is in that episode, I just don't think it worked as well as I originally thought.

All in all though, this is what I love so much about Buffy--at least one of the things. The fact that I can watch it over and over and get something different out of it each time. Plus, my sister and her Buffy-friend think of me as the Buffy encyclopedia while they're marathoning through the show for the first time. They're always asking me what's going to happen next, if so and so will die, etc. And as much as they want to know, it's surprised me that they haven't thought to look up spoilers online.
