Anyone seen the unaired pilot? I did, it was very different from the actual series! First of all, Hannigan wasn't even the original Willow haha and there's a very awkward scene having to do with Giles and a spiral staircase. Of course, Whedon had a very low budget so the special effects weren't.... well anything special.
I think it's also weird if you go back and watch season 1 episodes the special effects are totally different. Remember how the sound used to be all muffly and fake? and you could hardly see anything when it was dark because they use a different type of film. Good to know that the series has improved since then. Season 1 is so amateur compared to season 7! Props to the special effects people! : grinyes
 
I have it is very funny to wartch, Actually I kinda liked the Libary set it was intresting! The actress that played willow was terriable and you can totally see why she was replaced! And I remember hearing that Joss paid for the effects and stuff out of his own pocket!
 
I saw the unaired pilot a long time ago. It was kinda interesting to see it but it definetely sucked compared to the actual aired pilot. And I didn't like the girl who played Willow either. Aly is/was so much better for the part.

Haha. Yeah - I think there's a feature somewhere in the DVDs about the evolution of the vampires. The way they dusted in later seasons was more "advanced" and detailed compared to the prior seasons. I actually never saw the pilot. =\ Where can you see it?
 
Ah I'm so tempted to take away from your karma - season one might have been different and not as fancy but they did GREAT with the resources they had - I doubt The WB was willing to invest so much money in a show based on a movie that failed at the box office.

Season One definitely has its charms, fancy effects or no.

I loved season one!!
And don't forget the technology was not even available back in season 1 to make he vampires dust like they do in season 3(When they started to dust cool)
 
How did you people get this unaired pilot?

I really wanna see who this 'origonal' willow actress was. was she really that bad? I know Allyson Hannigan is the perfect Willow, but I would like to know how this actress portrayed the character. Imagine if she didnt get replaced with Ally, and she'd been Willow all these years.....
 
It is very easy to find just type Buffy unaired pilot into Goole or Yahoo.
The actress that played willow in the UP was Riff Regan
 
Probably the best part of the unaired pilot was the library. the pilot seemed very fan like, with the vamps turning into powder/suger(which or whatever it was). And we just missed out on Joyce and Angel, and well Willow was really a geek geek instead of the willow we all knew and loved.

If she had stayed on, the charecter wouldve been so much more different then we had her.
 
I agree about the library. That library was wicked.

I don't think too highly of this episode. Probably because it's not the pilot that we all know and love. It's hard to like something when you're not used to it I suppose.
 
Haha ok I just rewatched the pilot and I think it's hilarious when Giles is trying to be all serious while talking to Buffy and he's going down the spiral staircase all weird haha it's like talk talk (paus & walk real fast) talk talk haha I love Giles he's incredibly cute in a nerdy librarian way. Oh and the originial 'Willow' did a hack job of acting in the pilot.. so I can see why they would replace her. Yuck. Thank God for Hannigan.

Ok... agreed, it's true, they didn't have the right technology or money to make it as good as season 7. The thing is the first season I watched was season 6 and when I bought the DVD's for season 1 and 2 I was like... what?! I was squinting my eyes every time it was a night scene. Anyways, kudos to the early seasons tech team for working with what they had. =)
 
I downloaded the UP last night and i watched it this morning, and i was totally shocked, but considering there was a small budget then it wasnt that bad.

I DID NOT like the Willow that they cast, she was oh so very wrong for the part! Not good at all, im glad that they re-cast Alyson Hannigan!

I spose that it was ok, seeing as it was only 1996 aswell! Glad to see they kept all the original characters (except Willow), and i didnt like the library. I prefer the one that we see in Season 1!

Overall, it was ok, not the best!
 
I'm ruddy glad they replaced that girl who played Willow, not because she was a bit bigger but because she wouldn't of had the same effect on me as Alyson did whilst playing Willow. She wasn't really one with the character, the way she acted was appalling (sp?) too.

The props ect. were rather funny though in the audatorium and the library, hehe.

I'm extremely glad that that wasn't aired as the first episode... or as an episode at all! 😉
 
personally, i really liked the library set...i think it would've been cool to see Buffy do the flip in the actual pilot.
some of it bugged me, some of it didn't. didn't like the Willow-girl...*bows to Alyson Hannigan* so much better.
i didn't like the fact that Buffy left Willow to go off with Cordy and the Cordettes.
didn't like Buffy as a brunette.
i liked the little mention of Dingoes Ate my Baby...an earlier mention of Oz would have had me lmao!
Jonathan's little cameo was cool.
and i liked Buffy and Xander walking through the courtyard, spotting all of the diiferent groups...their riff of the drama club was funny.
but the biggest...i don't know...hole? emptiness? lack of Angel!!!
but overall, i think they did pretty well for what they had!

I liked when they were walking through the courtyard too....and the lack of Angel really made me feel like something was missing!!
it's not on any of the DVD's i have...but i have the English versions.
 
Unfortunately they didn't put the original pilot of Buffy on dvd, but, you can watch it at various sites, Youtube, etc. I thought it was interesting seeing the pilot, it sort of reminded me of a fan film with the vampires not be truly dusted but, turning into like sand or sugar. I was diasppointed that Angel didn't appear and was like where is our dear boy, we need Angel. The girl who play Willow, I'm sorry just couldn't act, she was horrible and made Willow a total nerd. I did like that Buffy was a brunette because originally SMG is a brunette and I liked that she was true to her original hair color. To rate the pilot I would have to give it a six, not truly the best but, yet intresting.
 
I have never seen the un-aired pilot. I wish I could though. I can't imagine any other actress playing Willow other than Alyson. She is so great as Willow.
 
I just got this yesterday. Will likely watch it later on 😀 Should be interesting.
