Unaired Pilot

Well, Riff Regan was awful. I cant imagine her as cool sexy vampire Willow. Or dark scary end-the-world Willow.

I loved the fact that Jonathan was in it and the Dingoes were mentioned.

But over all, if that had been the pilot, I would not have kept watching. And I dont mean because of the effects or anything (I realise they didnt have the money) but just for the acting. And the dialogue. It was way too over the top cheesy. Worse than soap operas. It was like none of them could act when they filmed it.

i havent seen the unaired pilot but i would really like to just to compare things with the actual Buffy series.plus it would give me an idea of what it would of been like if they'd carried on with the same ppl in it,i imagine it wouldnt have done as well and not lasted as long as Buffy actually did.
i really cant imagine anyone else playing Willow,AH has got that character down perfectly,to see someone else play her just wouldnt seem right.

When I saw this pilot, I laughed. The older version of Willow was completely rubbish. She seemed sweet and stuff, but Alyson Hannigan was obviously the best choice. *Wink*

I just watched the unaired pilot on you tube, and I am SO glad that it wasn't the real pilot. You could see that it was SERIOUSLY low budget, I mean, what was with the dusting? It looked like something from a 50's or 60's horror movie. Also, the acting was terrible. I didn't like Riff Regan as Willow either. Nobody, and I mean nobody could play Willow like Alyson. What happened to Riff anyway? Does anybody know?

I checked it out on IMDB.com when I watched it cuz I really wanted to know. After her "Role" on Buffy she was in an episode of Dr. Quinn Medicine Women and LA Doctors, She was in a movie in 1996 called Just Friends. Then it appears she didn't act after 2000. And as of August 2005 (Their last update) She was working as a Director of Operations, Accounting and Human Resources for a non-profit HIV/AIDS organization in Washington, DC for the past 4 years.

Somebody should put the Global Frequency pilot up at YouTube. They'd be my hero.

But back to this one, yeah, it was pretty awful, but awful in an "I'm glad I watched it" way. To be honest I saved it to my hard drive. You watch that Riff Regan as Willow, and realize what a class find Alyson Hannigan was. There was some good jokes in this one that got cut. I liked Buffy's vault off the Library staircase.

When i first saw this, i was alot younger and i was more excited at seeing it then actually critiquing it....so now i will.
How bloomin awful...LOL.
No, thats not fair, but it was pretty harsh going.
First of all though, I gotta give Kudos to Michelle Geller. She actually played Buffy in that better then most of season 1..also she was still hot.
Not that she isn't an attractive lady now, its just she is a little slimmer then what I prefer.
Nic Brendon did a similar job to what we saw in the 'School Yard Years', though his acting was a little hammy with the reveal of Buffy as the Slayer......but then he often 'hammed it up' in the show too.
Riff Regan....oh my Lordy-Lou. Who here wishes to pray to God with me in thanx for the Birth of Alyson Hannigan!!!!
I have always appreciated her shy, timid but loyal and strong Willow but this pilot has made me appreciate her so much more.
In comparison to Michelle Gellar and Brendan(great and 'hammy') this girl was terribly stiff and wooden....and i'm sorry but the idea that the 'Chuncky Monkey' would dispose of Darla so easily(I know that was only for the purposes of the Pilot but still) 'grinds my gears'.
I suppose that for the wrong reasons the studio execs made the right choice.
By that, I do mean that they shouldn't have gotten rid of Riff because she was on the Chubby side.....they should have on the basic premise that she was shit!.
Stewart Heads Performance was as impeccible as ever, it was just as you'd imagine from a seasoned actor, so can't really say much, same with Carpenter, pretty similar to what you expected.
Next, something I actually forgot about this but the Principle.
Oh MY GOSH why didn't they keep Stephen Tobolowsky. That guy was SOOOO funny as Flutie. Ok Lerner was amusing, but Tobolowsky has had roles in some of my fave movies, including Groundhog Day and SPACEBALLS.
Man, he was a treat, i genuinely believed his characterization and his 'Bunny', 'Bambi', 'Betty', 'Wilma' stuff was not only really funny, but believeable.

OK, one final note to mention. Mercedes McNab. I personally find it quite interesting(in just basic trivia kinda of way) that with the exception of no one, she is the only one to have been in from the very beginning of Buffy to the Very end of Angel.
Granted she wasn't in every episode and Boreanaz joined the first aired episode, but MM is the only one from the beginning to the end(not including the movie).

OK, on that, i'll just say that there was enough to enjoy on a certain level, and the humour of the show was evident, but gotta question, on the strength of that pilot, does anyone think that now this show would not have made the air?

OK, thanks and i'll go now🙂

wow, actually never realised that about Mercede's...good on you for noticing it
That was my first reaction too. Why did they pick this up? Then I remembered. The WB was a fledgling station at the time. It was looking for something hip and different to appeal to a young demographic. Also this was back in the day of stuff like Saved by the Bell. In that environment I can see them saying something like, "Yeah we'll take it, but we need some changes".

I wonder who's decision it was to change the music. That was a good one too.

I'm currently watching it right now. Does anybody think that if this episode would've been the one shown on TV, the show might not have made it to episode two?

It's bad!

I loved this the first time I saw it - I have it saved on my hard drive [along with the Angel theatrical trailer]. But I rewatched it on YouTube the other day, and I realized - godDAMN. Suxzor in a major way.

I agree with keeping the original Flutie - some of the stuff he said was just hilarious. And I realized how iundying HORRIBLE and GUT-WRENCHING Riff Regan was as Willow. She tried to hard to deliver the lines with the same self-depricating humor the other characters did and she totally failed. .:loves Alyson Hannigan:.

I did love the Buffy/Xander scene in the courtyard. "WHAT is the HOMEWORK?!" "I didn't GET the HOMEWORK!" BWAHAHAHAHAHA.

besides agreeing with what's been said, i also noticed that 'dingoes ate my baby' was a band mentioned in there, and then it became the name of oz's band later. 🙂 just pointing that out, i found it cool...

How do u save Youtube files to your hard drive?

Ordinarily I'd just link you to the site Sk8r, but it requires using Firefox extensions, and this new, nasty spyware just came out that's been using the installer for Firefox extensions. It has something to do with NSIS popups, and it's almost impossible to get rid of. I'm pretty sure this particular "Save Youtube Vids" extension is clean, because both me, and Crushed Dead Bone use it, but I don't want to risk linking anyone to possible malware. I just don't know enough about exactly where the spyware is being installed yet.

Okay so ive been able to save the files as .flv...how do i convert them? in the "free" sense of the word...

or if you have a converter, i can send them to you, you convert them, and send them back to me? did that make sense?
