Under-rated season?

Am I the only one that feels like Season 1 is the most underrated season of Buffy?

Me, personally, I love Season 1. Corny plot lines ("The Puppet Show") and all.

Season 4 is pretty underrated in my opinion. I know that it consists of some ridiculous episodes (Beer Bad, just to name one) and Adam is...eh. But I really do love that season. I enjoy The Freshman, Living Conditions, This Year's Girl, Who Are You, and Restless is my favorite episode of the entire series. Most people rate season 4 as the worst, it seems. It's not my favorite season, but it might be one of them.

While I'm not a huge fan of season 1, it's not my least favorite by any means. I love The Pack, The Witch, Nightmares and Prophecy Girl... and The Puppet Show is actually pretty funny haha.

Yeah, I find that I do enjoy a lot of episodes from season one.

Plus Prophecy Girl is an awesome finale. There is so much going on and I love all the emotion that's packed into it.

Season 4 is underrated, if only for "Hush" and "Restless" alone. I always thought the final two seasons were underrated. Especially season 6. Season 7 has a reputation, and I understand why people dislike it, but to count those two seasons out like they never happened is simply ridiculous in my opinion. And I adore season 1! It's wonderful to see how innocent they are before they become battle scarred. 🙂

Yes, I think Season 1 is pretty underrated. It's one of my top favorites!

Yeah I do think season 1 is way underrated, but I understand why... It's the shortest and definitely very corny.

But I don't think season 4 is underrated at all. Season 4 is known for being the "worst" season so I see it being mentioned a lot.

I think that lots of you still want BTVS in a quality level which it firstly reached up to season 2. Of course season 1 was not as good as season 2 or 3. They made a big quality change! But you have to remember that every show starts small and grows. BTVS too! And the first season is ok, I love it more than season 4! But I see what some of you said! Sometimes I wished they used better special effect or masks!

I like Season One! My favorite is I Robot, You Jane, although I don't even look at the weird parts with the robot and the computers. I just skip around and watch Giles and Jenny tease each other. So cute. 🙂

I do think that season 1 is underrated. It just really differs from all the other seasons. It consists more of filler episodes etc. And yes, it is pretty corny, but I actually like that. I like season 1 for what it is.

I love season one, and though it can be corny and definitely isn't as well-plotted,etc. as later seasons, I think there's lots of love for it. IMO, S4 is the most underrated. I LOVE that season, and most rate it as their least favorite.

I agree that season 1 is underrated. When I think about funny quotes or moments from the show, I'm always surprised about how many are in season 1. Sure, the plot lines are often cheesy, but I think that the characters and dialogue more than make up for it.

I don't think that season 1 is the most underrated, however. I think that title goes to season 4. I get that Adam was kind of boring, Riley wasn't as "exciting" as Angel, and everything changed for the gang: no more high school. The episodes on an individual level, however, are generally amazing! I find myself re-watching season 4 more than any other - I'd say it's my favorite.

Yes, it is definitely underrated. I love it because they're basically children, and they're having fun. It's cheesy, it's adorable, it's soooo 90's, and you can watch it just to put a smile on your face. The later seasons get much more darker, and deeper, so it's refreshing to go to season 1 and just relax. Although IMO, the most underrated season is season 7. Most people hate it with a burning passion, but I have never had a problem with it. I love it.

Yeah, I love Season 1. I love Prophecy Girl, when Buffy is walking to the school with the theme tune playing I think I fell in love right there and then. It's the most badass thing ever.

I am a huge fan of season 1 🙂 I think that it the season I have watched most times! I just love how everyone are introduced to the show and that everything was new and exciting. Don't misunderstand, I do think that about the other seasons as well, but there's just something special about season one! 🙂
Yes, corny as mentioned earlier in this thread, but I think that is why I find it so charming!

I love Season 1, it has some incredible stand-alone episodes and has some of the most fun character moments, IMO. I honestly feel it's not the worst Buffy season (Season 7 gets that honor)

I think it was kind of a practice run for what the writers really wanted to do. Obviously with 12 ep they couldn't do too much. The budget, effects & music was pretty bad, but there are some good stand a lone EP's like Witch, NKABOTFD, OOS, OOM, but it also has some lackluster ones like The Pack, IRYJ, Teachers Pet & with the season being so short the lackluster EP's stick out more & effect the season more as a whole.

I love Season 1. Although there are better seasons, there are some brilliant episodes - Angel, Nightmares and Prophecy Girl are my favourites from the season. Prophecy Girl was a turning point for me - its when I knew this show was something special. That scene when Willow and Cordelia go to the common room and find the guys dead with the cartoon playing as Willow watches in disbelief and the eerie music playing and then Willow and Buffy's conversation in Willow's bedroom - two of my favourite scenes in the whole series!!

I think season 1 is a good season if you see it for what it is: a pretty corny beginning to a great show. 🙂 I like a lot of the episodes, and I did start at the beginning when I was watching the show and got caught straight away, so it has a certain something. 🙂 But I think it's more when you compare it to the other seasons and know how the show are going to evolve you see how good it is. At it's own it's not that great.

I agree that season 4 is underrated! I think it has some of the best and funniest episodes!

I don't know if it's underrated. I mean, I think it was the least good season, but it wasn't a bad season compared to other shows. As a Buffy season, I don't think it was underrated. But only because there were better seasons, not because it was bad, it wasn't. Although Buffy is pretty annoying in this season (nothing to do with the topic, but I just had to say it).

Season 4 is underrated I agree about that, it was episodes like Living Conditions and Something Blue that made love the show when I first started watching it. Season 4 was also the first season I bought on DVD, and it was expensive.
