Just gush about some actresses you don't think get enough credit here. I won't mention the likes of Gina Carano, Claire Stansfield and Famke Janssen just yet as I've gushed about them plenty LOL, so I'll go for some more unconventional choices.

I think Kari Wuhler is a really good actress. She is best known for appearing on Sliders and was something of a B-Movie Queen though she later went on to star in superhero cartoons in the 2010s. Sadly her role in Sliders was not popular as she replaced two beloved characters under very controversial circumstances, and she was heavily sexualized which a lot of fans felt went against the show. Outside that though I think she's actually quite good and it's a shame that has tended to overshadow her other roles.

What really made me a fan was two of her performances in creature features, Anaconda and 8 Legged Freaks. These movies were big favourites when I was a child. In 8 Legged Freaks, Kari plays a badass, tough as nails, no nonsense Sheriff who kills dozens of giant, man eating Spiders, whilst in Anaconda she is quite possibly one of the most useless and pathetic female characters in anything LOL.

She does nothing but scream and sob, and she actually says "Hold my hand" when her boyfriend is being eaten by a Snake thinking it will help him. Best of all though is her death which is so embarrassing. Not only is she the only person not to die at the jaws of the Snake, but she is killed by an old guy, 30 years older than her, who is tied up, whilst she has a knife on him.

When I returned to these two films years later I was surprised to learn that it was the same actress in both roles. I guess my young mind never put them together. I always like castings like that, like learning that Pennywise and Nigel Thornberry are the same guy and Luke Skywalker and the Joker are the same guy etc.

I love that these are played by the same person. It's a shame that she just kind of faded away in the late 2010s.

Another underrated actress I've recently discovered is Natalie Burn. She is honestly one of the absolute best action stars I've come across. I'd go as far as to say she is the best female action start around now after Gina Carano. I don't think she can quite match her, but her fights are so well staged and choreographed. I discovered her through Acceleration which is a fantastic female led action film.

I recently watched Sliders; that seems to have been a show troubled by some major Executive Meddling.

Kari Wuhler's character was more heavily sexualised, but given I read that Fox banned the producers from having one character become a recurring villain because they did not think the actress - Zoe McLellan - was attractive enough, I am inclined to assume that this was because of more meddling. Maggie did become a better character over time, which is not a bad thing, as it shows character growth.

I have not seen Anaconda but I have seen Eight Legged Freaks; a fun enough monster flick.

I remember Kari Wuhrer from Out of Sync, a film originally called Lip Service but changed when it was found there was a porno flick by that name. She played a no-talent singer who was being hyped up while her music was actually being dubbed by Maggie Stanley, played by Gail O'Grady. Much better than the 5.7 star rating on IMDB.

I NEVER trust IMDB ratings. They are so biased, so full of political hang ups etc.

Sorry just saw it is Wuhrer. Can't believe I made that mistake. I feel like I've slipped into an alternate universe where she is Wuhrer, not Wuhler LOL.

NotASlayer we are both in an alternate universe now. We'll have to see if anything else is different. I wonder if they pronounce parmesan differently here?
