Unecessary Episodes in both Buffy/Angel

I think Smile Time was pretty unnecessary 😛 I think that it was an episode that's so ridiculously bad that it's good though.

There isn't any others that spring to mind.

Ah..the Angel episode where they're trying to make Angel into Angelus, it seems as though it doesn't work...but it did and everything in the ep didn't really happen. (gosh that's a bad explanation. But that episode was boring and completely unnecessary.)

I love both those eps!!! Oh well - spice of life. :-)
"Go Fish"

It's not a bad episode, but having a random episode that was in no way linked to the story or Angelus as the 3rd last episode of season 2 made me mad.

I understand that it was meant to be a season 1 episode or something, but it was still stupid putting it as the 3rd last episode ._.

Provider was a pretty bad and unnecessary episode from AtS. Angel had a nice realazation at the end, but they could have worked that realazation into any other episode. Also, "She" was just a BAD episode.

huh - I may possibly be the only person who likes "she" :-)
Above and beyond all others, "The Girl In Question" should have been shelved as soon as it became obvious that Sarah wasn't going to be able to reprise her role as Buffy. The story was totally useless, and came at a time when everyone knew that "Angel" was going to be canceled. The mission to recover the head in Rome might, and I emphasize MIGHT have worked simply on its own merits, especially if the mysterious Immortal had been confronted and had given Angel, either willingly or after being vanquished, some vital bit of information about either the Senior Partners' plans or those of the Circle of the Black Thorn which, combined with Cordy's information from "You're Welcome," made it imperative that Angel had no choice but to act immediately in order to stop them. (His actual reason in "Not Fade Away" was nothing more than a suicidal gesture which, ultimately, didn't accomplish anything except the disaster that we saw in IDW's "After The Fall" arc)

On "Buffy," absolutely the worst episode of the entire series was "As You Were," because of all of the various convenient coincidences and unexplained things that happened, beginning with, "How did Riley know that Buffy was working at the Double Meat Palace if he hadn't called or talked to Dawn or any of the Scoobies beforehand?", and ending with, "Why, if Spike actually WAS the mysterious Doctor, were there no repercussions later from his supposed customers?" The kind of people who would be involved in that sort of business transaction wouldn't take, "Some overgrown Army boy scout showed up at the exact moment when the little bugs were hatching and fragged the whole cave. Sorry about that. Try me again in a couple of months, I may have something for you by then," as any sort of excuse. They would have had very specific plans for the infant Suvolte demons, and would be wanting revenge on the dealer who had screwed those plans up by not delivering on their deal.

Agreed!

also agree about WA's points about "As you were".
Of course I think pretty much every season has a "meh" filler kind of ep.

Ted was a horrible episode... I can't think of any other from the top of my head, though.

I don't think any episodes are completely unnecessary. There is always a moment of character development or plot advancement that makes it worthwhile. Even in the worst of the stinkingly awful episodes.

Well I mean there are always going to be filler "unnecessary" episodes in any show... and some will be good and some will be bad. you could really put any filler episode here and give an argument for it... good and bad.

I'm with Jodast; there are some episodes I don't like as much as others, but all of them have some sort of character development of some sort. Except maybe "The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco". That one was just stupid all around.

LMAO! So much agreement with this. I watched that ep once on the original airing of season 5...NEVER AGAIN. Terrible.

Oh god that was one of the worst episodes of television I've ever seen and I wish to erase it from my memory

The worst episode of AtS in the best season of AtS, in my opinion.

At least that ep explained why there was a guy in Wolfram & Hart wearing a wrestling mask in one of the earlier episodes. ;)
