Universal Studios loses major sets

Yup, Wisteria Lane needs to be okay 🙂
This is really sad. But at least they got duplicates of the film materials.
Do you think it was arson again?
 
Well not to be one to start a rumour but I wonder how much insurance money Universal will get. That writers strike did cost the studio some serious loss of coin...

First,DH isn't produced or distributed by Universal.

Second,firefighters did manage to save hundreds of titles...and they added that the damaged footage can be replaced.(More detail is now included in the story.)

Third....don't know,but I would not be surprised if it was.

Also,the LA Fire Department is advising people to the north and west of the fire to close their windows and not to breathe in the smoke,mostly being generated from-apparently-the videotapes and their plastic storage cases.

Desperate Housewives is filmed at Universal Studios.
 
Noted,but that series' sets weren't affected. So,feel free to breathe easier.

The only series that might see some delays is Ghost Whisperer;two of its 8 backdrops/sets were damaged in the fire.

More on the BttF clock tower: USA Today reported that it was heavily damaged,and it isn't known yet if that set will be declared a total loss.
 
Shame...that's gonna put a crimp in the Universal backlot tram tour. BTW - from what I remember from the tour, the street used for the Wisteria Lane exteriors was in a different part of the backlot from the area affected by the fire.

You have just been EVERYwhere!
Most importantly, no one was killed or seriously injured. Sets and stages can always be rebuilt, and there are duplicates of movies in storage literally all over the world.

Yeah. You'd be surprised where they obtain old "lost" films and footage. They found a good chunk of Metropolis in the storage room of an insane asylum! Less surprising is that the KKK kept Birth of a Nation around and pretty well preserved. Not that I'm generally in favor of praising terrorists. The KKK are pretty darn screwed up. But, still... it just goes to show that you are right. Films are lurking around in some pretty strange places.

Here's hoping humanity learned its lesson with the great fire of Alexandria and no longer stores its vast array of built-up knowledge solely and completely in any one place (the loss of the library at Alexandria is, in my opinion, one the greatest tragedies ever to befall humankind). I think we need to back up everything on, like, separate continents. Maybe we should start storing stuff in Antarctica, too. lol.

Yeah, I have a two tape (vhs) set of John Wayne's "The Alamo," one of my all time favorite movies, that included footage thought lost forever until a complete copy of the original uncut film, plus trailers, was found stored in a closet in a movie theater in some little town in Canada. Apparently the original owner sold the theater just after the first run of the movie and never bothered to tell the new owner that it hadn't been returned to the distributer.Stuff like that happens all the time.
