Untypical behavior from Buffy

We all know that before Buffy went to the Sunnydale High she went to school in LA. There she was beatyqueen and kind of a LA-Cordelia. Conceited and egoism. Then she came to the SH. As every human beeing would do, she searched for new friends. Wouldn't we expect from her to find friends like she is used to have? Friends like Cordelia? Instead she looked for Willow and Xander.

Did the fire in the gym make her want more calmed-downed friends like Willow? Did she saw that her old side was mean? Did the coucil of watchers influenced her? Or was it just her character who really came out? Had the seperation of her parents something to do with it? What do you think?

I think that the reason the first clicked with Cordelia was because that's the kind of person she was back in LA and the kind of people she hung out with back there. I think she also realised that there was pressure from her parents to do well in her studies and not burn the gym down this time, so befriending Willow was more out of wanting to do well more than be popular. The fact that they turned out to be great friends was pure luck, in my opinion.

I agree with [MENTION=11853]Jodast[/MENTION], she still wanted to hang out with Cordelia and she probably would have still, if it wasn't for the incident at the Bronze where Buffy attacks Cordelia with a stake lol I remember Buffy being pretty miffed by it..

I think the biggest thing that changed her was becoming the Slayer. That was an incredibly isolating experience for Buffy, and it separated her from everyone and just about everything she knew at Hemory. For the first time in her life she was completely alone. How could anyone at her old school relate to her being the Slayer?

Then she comes to Sunnydale and seems to be drawn towards Cordelia, but that doesn't last once she sees Cordy bullying Willow. Willow is clearly alone as well, and Buffy feels not just bad for her, but also empathy for her, which is something she, by her own admission, hadn't considered before. After becoming the Slayer, she understood for the first time people who are alone or isolated. She gained a new perspective she didn't have before.

I think that was the single biggest reason for her personality change.

She didn't look for friends, she looked for resources.

The Slayer isn't just a girl with super-powers, actually, it's not even a girl, it's a being with a destiny created to wage a war. Willow and Xander are her soldiers, she chose them because of their qualities, Willow's inherent power and Xander's loyalty. Their friendship is secondary and auxiliary to their roles as Slayer's tools, she may like them but mostly she needs them.

It's a toxic, vile relationship. Willow and Xander suffer ( loss of people they love, mutilation, insanity ) because they are Slayer's soldiers. What do they get out of it? Well.... They don't **** her and as friendship goes, Buffy is a horrible friend. Sure, she is there to slay the monster that tries to take her tools away most of the time but that's about it, they can't count on her when she's really needed.

It's all about Slayer magic and business.

The slayer changed her and if she hung with Cordy and her followers I think they wouldn't understand Buffy being the slayer and just made her a loser and make her life miserable. When she went to Sunnydale she wanted changed, she might of thought if Xander, Willow found out I'm the slayer maybe they accpet me because they are different too?

I gonna mention the movie, even though it was cheesy it did show us Buffy transforming and leaving the Cordy life, her friends in the movie made fun of her just because she didn't want to hang with them as much, Buffy knew she couldn't be friends with them anymore and that Pike was the best option as he understood her being a slayer and didn't judge. I like watching this before watching season 1 cause it shows Buffy changing.

I deffo think Buffy did want to be popular a little bit as you can tell later in the series a lot of random cheerleaders and jocks find her weird as she's always fighting etc. So I am glad she changed and I deffo think once she changed into a slayer she changed her personailty and she is thankful that she made all these friends who understand her.
