So we know that Joss intended on bringing Tara back in Season 7, and that Xander was originally going to be gay, but are there any other ideas that were brought to the table that weren't implemented on the show?

There's also the fabled alternate ending to Season 5, where Tara would been killed, Willow would have went dark and then drained Dawn.
 
I'm interested in seeing if anyone knows anything I haven't already heard.

This one is pretty well known but Oz was suppose to be killed by Angelus instead of Jenny.

Apparently Dawn was also supposed to be younger than she was in Season 5. The reason she acted so 'bratty' in a sense was because the writers hadn't gotten past the fact that she was originally going to be only 14, or younger.
 
I read somewhere that if "Angel" had lasted another season, Joss planned to somehow divide Illyria, thus bringing Fred back and giving Amy Ackerman a double role.

Also, Joss was toying with the idea of bringing Oz back in the same season to teach Nina how to control her changes, which would seem to indicate also that he had ideas for Nina in Season 6. (What would be the name for a Nina/Oz ship? Noz? Ozna?)
 
In one of the Unofficial Guides to BTVS it said that there was an idea kicked around that Buffy would get badly hurt in a demon attack and would be in hospital and Angel would come back to Sunnydale and he and Riley would kick off. Kinda glad that didn't happen, sounds more like a fanfic.

Wasn't that debunked by Seth Green? I remember something somewhere where he said he was never approached. Maybe it was an idea they had but they never got around to actually talking to Seth about it because of the cancellation?

Speaking of Oz, his S4 storyline with Verruca was supposed to last MUCH longer, but had to be cut short because of Seth's movie commitments.

Spike was supposed to die in 'What's My Line'. Devastated that never happened. 😉

Wasn't there something about a leaked script that hit the net during the filming of the season, where Anya and Dawn both died? (Dawn, I'm assuming, would have jumped from the tower or have to be killed to close the portal) They had to rewrite the ending, as far as I can remember.

And then there's Cordelia's S4 storyline pre-Joss' hissy fit.

Ooh, I remember that. She was supposed to touch Joyce in 'The Body' and Joyce was supposed to wake up.

Joss said that, while he was working on the idea of having Oz in Season 6 as a tit in with expanding Nina's role, he never got around to talking to Seth before the show was cancelled, after which, of course, there was no reason to.

I would be surprised, knowing the way that Joss works,if he didn't have literally dozens of ideas at one stage of development or another, right up to the last moment, many of which were little more that just ideas that he never even bothered to discuss with anyone.
 
I really feel like if I had more time and commitment to non-W/T fics, I would write a full-length fic about Dawn being able to talk to the dead 😛

In "Touched 7ABB20", Dawn uses an old Turkish spell to talk to the Bringer they had captured who had no tongue and could not speak. The spell was originally intended to talk to the dying who could not speak and Dawn had mastered the spell in the original language before Anya told her there was a translation. Talking to the dead may be considered an extension of that spell.

That is true. Just been a while since I watched Season 7 😛. I think that if that idea had been put into place, it really could have provided another far more interesting arc for Dawn to have in the show, instead of the klepto one we got 😛
 
I read, somewhere, that there was a proposed storyline, wherein Xander somehow came to possess Buffy's powers, in a freaky-Friday type way.

I think I heard something like that as well, it was supposed to show why men weren't able to carry the Slayer's powers, right? Maybe if it had gone ahead, we wouldn't have Billy, lol.

There was also the thing with Buffy/Xander in S7. Nick Brendon at the first Hallowhedon Con said that he and SMG were playing the beginning of the season as though they were going to get together and become a couple. I don't know if this was just something the two of them came up with, thinking it was a natural conclusion to their characters, or if it was an actual storyline that was dropped, but Nick did say he was disappointed that it never happened.
 
Actually that's an adventure idea from the BtVS role-playing game! 🙂

It involved a 'white hat' getting slayer-like powers and a mysterious Watcher showing up to 'guide' them. Meanwhile the slayer is starting to lose her powers, getting weaker, like she's taking part in the Cruciamentum or something. Hi-jinks ensue. 😀

It's a pretty kick-ass idea for an episode though, maybe Season 4, when they didn't know what to do with Xander. I think it would've been perfect. 🙂


Also, I know Eliza Dushku was only meant to appear in about four episodes, but Joss loved what she did with the character so much and she was introduced more fully into the saeson. (I think originally Faith was supposed to commit suicide over guilt from killing Alan Finch)

I'm glad this didn't happen because Faith is too much of an awesome character to kill off, but I would have liked to see a suicide storyline. I think it might have been too dark for s3 though, but nonetheless, having such a huge character kill themselves would have made a huge impact.

Yeah, Joss usually makes the right call in regards to keeping characters around, at least in the early days.
Do you guys and gals think it at all possible that Season 1 had a lot of ideas that went unused due to the limited time-schedule of the season, and were later recycled in the seasons following it?

Well, that scene from the Prophecy Girl shooting script where Angel is referred to as human when he walks into the library, is often pulled out as an example of something was intended.
