The “Karen” meme has reportedly inspired a new thriller film starring Orange is the New Black star Taryn Manning. The term, “Karen,” is often used by social media users to recognize a privileged white woman who often inconveniences others for selfish reasons and acts on racist micro-aggressions.

The Karen movie will follow a racist, entitled white woman (Manning) in the South who terrorizes her new African-American neighbors.

That could actually be a good role for Manning, I just... calling it Karen... seriously. Maybe I'm being a Ken but that whole thing needs to stop. And the worst part is the whole Karen fad might die down by the time the movie comes out only for it to be the catalyst for it's reemergence.

Oh, I could already tell this is a great movement for every white woman named Karen out there.

But yeah, I agree, this movie will almost be as dated as the Slenderman meme... if not for the fact that harassment of black people is very much still an issue in America (especially the act of reporting them to the cops for minor demeanor). But it still feels kinda silly that you're using a meme as the catalyst to address such an issue, I feel.

I don't like the Karen meme because I love the name Karen and some people think it's unusable now just because of a meme.

A straight up horror story!? I’m sorry but you can’t make a movie like that and not make it a comedy! I think addressing those issues as a ‘Karen’ may either, get the ‘youts’ to listen, or just take the Micky out of racism which is NOT RIGHT as its real and big. I’m surprised the Karen trend has lasted as long as it has, it would be pretty embarrassing if it died out before or during the movie being made! This is quite interesting, mixed feelings about it 🤔 😂 🤣

Sounds more like a company latching onto a current trend to make more money for their average horror movie than anything else to me.

Wokeness is flavour of the month at the moment in Hollywood. Zoe Saldana even apologised for not being black enough when she played Nina Simone in a movie.

That's the most dumbass thing I've ever heard, and I'm probably one of the more 'woke' members of this board. 😆

The funny thing about this though isn't that she apologized for not being black enough... but she took this long, jumping on the bandwagon to apologize only after she received her paycheck. Yeah, because the past four years weren't trendy enough for her to make such an apology.

I think it's a stupid apology to be making. Black is black. It's almost like you can't just be black anymore, you have to be the right shade of black.
