Upcoming One Shot Comics

I'm not really thrilled by the one-shot stories, mainly because there's just not enough pages in a single issue to develop and tell any sort of decent story. At best, a single issue is about the equivalent of the time between the beginning of a tv show and the first commercial. You just sit down with your popcorn and Dr Pepper, and the show's over. I know that the comparison between a one hour episode of any tv show and a single issue of a comic book isn't really fair to the comic book format (the reader either, but that's an entirely different story) especially when almost half of the pages of the comic book have to be devoted to advertising, but time is running out for "Buffy Season 8," and so far the main plot of the season, the confrontation with and defeat of Twilight, plus, hopefully (though I'm beginning to think that it will never happen except for an occasional couple of panels sprinkled on like sesame seeds on a dinner roll) the long promised and not so far delivered crossover with Spike and Angel AND, hopefully, a correction in the public's "vampires are good, Slayers are bad" misconception. All of that has to be resolved by the end of the season, we're past the projected half-way point, and they're giving us single episodes that contribute little, if anything, to the season's main storyline. I'm about to the point of expecting the whole season AND the last couple of episodes of Season 7 to be written off as a very complicated dream, imposed on Buffy by the First Evil. Buffy wakes up in Spike's arms in the abandoned house from "Touched," and we've still got the Caleb to contend with.

Okay, not every single piece of Buffyverse canon needs to be an epic, relevant adventure. It's okay to have fun with an issue, too!
