Hello, my fellow BB'ers! I'm proudly creating this thread to introduce you all to a project I've had in the back of my mind ever since I've joined this wonderful board.
Indeed, back then, amidst the many nights I spent reading Buffy fansites, I realized that there was ONE thing missing on BB—and that thing was a legitimate top list of favorite scenes from the Buffyverse voted by the members! At the time, I thought of organizing a contest where I'd gather everyone's opinion and somehow make a list out of that, but it sounded too messy and, honestly, I was damn lazy. 😉
Fast-forward to today. After some thinking, planning, and careful research, I come to you with an idea, a project that I'm hoping will be exciting for everyone. Anyhow, without further ado, here is how I'm planning to do this.
First of all, I had to select a hundred scenes from the Buffyverse (Buffy AND Angel). This was not an easy task considering I had to be unbiased, and picking 100 scenes, even just from BtVS, was hard. However, using my combined knowledge of the fans in general, and lengthy sessions of research online, I slowly - but surely - eliminated scenes from both shows until I was down to 67 scenes for BtVS and 33 scenes from AtS. Yes, I selected less from Angel, but you have to consider that the show didn't last as long and, to be honest, it had less memorable moments. Keep in mind I actually like AtS a bit more than BtVS, so no bias there. 😉
Now that I've explained the process I went through for selecting the 100 scenes you'll be voting on, here come the rules of this project.
VOTING THREADS
Every week I will post a thread with ten scenes. On these threads, I will put one picture from each scene (clearly representing their essence) and I will add a short passage of the dialogue spoken in it, if there's any. Additionally, I will personally write a commentary about each scene, whether it's about how I felt after watching them the first time or simply about their impact on the rest of the show. This, I hope, will help make the threads more interesting to read for you all. 🙂
VOTING PROCESS
This project should last 20 weeks. I know, it sounds long, but if the voting process actually goes really well and I don't need to leave the threads open a whole week each time, it can - and will - go faster. 😀
Anyway, during the first ten weeks, you will eliminate fifty scenes. Each week, the five scenes with the most votes from the members will move on to the next stage of the contest.
The next five weeks, the four scenes with the most votes each week will move on. This will leave us with 20 scenes. Two weeks later, we'll be down to 10 scenes, and from there on, we'll reach the final stage where we'll discover what is the most memorable scene in the 'Verse according to BB.
HOW TO VOTE
You will have two ways to vote:
#1 You can post the order in which you would rate the scenes in contention during that week. The first five scenes in your list will get one vote, the last five will get none. The order will be used for the seeding and for the final rankings.
#2 You can simply vote in the thread's poll for your favorite scene amongst the ten possible choices. This will get that scene one vote, but the other scenes will get nothing, as if you had made a list of the ten scenes and left the nine last spots blank. (During the final two weeks, you will be unable to vote this way)
N.B.: You can also do both: vote in the poll for your favorite scene of the week and post your overall rankings. The more votes we get, the better! 🙂
What happens if there's a tie between two scenes for the last spot before the cut-off?
I would then simply leave the thread open for a little while longer, until someone breaks the tie. If it doesn't happen inside of a couple hours, I will simply look at how high each scene has been ranked in everyone's rankings. The scene with the highest ranking average will win out. If EVEN then it's a tie (which I doubt will happen), I will ask three random members on BB to pick and the majority will win. Now, the only eventuality where I would let the voting process continue until there's a decisive vote is during the final two weeks.
SEEDING SYSTEM
Once we reach the eleventh week, I will be seeding the remaining fifty scenes. I will base the seeding on the amount of votes received by each scene in the previous round. That way, each week, the most popular scenes will be put against the least popular ones, making sure that no less-liked scenes go through in favor of some of the really loved ones simply because they were against worse competition that week!
ORDERING THE TOP 50
Once we reach the final week, the #1 scene will have been chosen and, based on all your votes, I - with the help of the moderation team - will order the fifty scenes.
CONCLUSION
The point of all of this (aside from having fun) is to have OUR own Top 50 Most Memorable Scenes In The Buffyverse (I will have to come up with a shorter name) so that the new members - and the old ones - can easily take a look at it whenever they come on BB. 😀 We could keep a picture and a quote for each scene, and (this is the cool part) add comments made by the members throughout the voting process.
To conclude, I know that some of you will probably think that this isn't perfect, that, however unbiased I tried to be, I will have left out scenes that you believe deserved to be on the list. It's true. I'm sure some people will be disappointed in certain scenes not making the TOP 100 (I had to take out some scenes I personally loved), but like in anything, you can't make everyone happy. So, there it is, my attempt at starting something fun and interesting on BB. I'm hoping you all give it a shot! I will be posting the first voting thread this Friday, January 3rd. ENJOY!!!!
