Upcoming Summer Movies

I still love superheroes and stuff, Batman V Superman was just so terrible it actually made me depressed haha Suicide Squad looks better for sure, but I can't help feel apathy since it's a universe where both Batman and Superman (not to mention Lex,) are simply wrong. I vastly prefer DC characters, but Marvel are mostly doing a great job right now.

I do love indie movies and all other kinds though. Been seeing some great stuff lately like The Invitation and Darling. One of my most anticipated this year is The Neon Demon.
 
I still prefer BvS to most of the Marvel movies. I did not see that much wrong with it that was not explained within the movie.

See I'm a total Marvel nerd, but I can appreciate DC for the risks it's taking that Marvel simply can't or won't (because it's owned by Disney, who like to remain family friendly) 😉

I love the MCU, but I dislike the fact they won't schedule a Black Widow movie (well, Kevin Feige hasn't ruled it out and I'm still fairly hopeful) and we won't get a female-led superhero movie til 2019 when Captain Marvel comes out. That sucks. DC announced Wonder Woman pretty much straight away.... 🙄

Apart from that, Marvel can't put a foot wrong. Heck, I even love Thor: The Dark World, and no one likes that! 😀

Oh I could speak for hours why I hate BvS but I think I'll let people see the positive side of me around here before I go on that hate rant haha
 
See, I've not yet seen it, so I can't comment, but I've seen the response, which was enough to tell me not to waste my money on the cinema and maybe to wait for rental. But then, Man of Steel was just as divisive. Personally I didn't like it, but I know plenty who did. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

I could be dying a terrible death tomorrow however and it won't stop me seeing Civil War. 😉

I do sometimes wonder how the box office would have gone for both had they originally released on the same date as intended....?
 
I think comic fanboys ruined any chance that BvS would have been well received.
 
I fairly liked Man of Steel but it had it's problems that held it back. BvS fails on 2 major fronts; being an adaptation of the characters (it gets almost all of them wrong except Alfred who is pretty on point haha,) and being a cohesive film. The script and editing are a mess and the pacing is almost non existent. None of the characters have motivation to do anything...things just happen. I hate what it does tot he characters as a fan of them, but even if I ignore that it fails as a film.

I honestly don't think I've ever felt as sad leaving a movie. I think I can relate to how hardcore Star Wars fans felt during the prequels.

I think they all had motivations and everything made sense. It's just that the movie did not fully point everything out and you had to read between the lines. But that's the problem also when the studio first said a 3.5 hour movie would be okay and then made the director cut an hour off because theaters didnt want to show it. For what is was, and what they needed it to be, BvS did a good job.
 
The longer cut may fix some of the issues, but as I say the portrayal of the characters is enough to make me despise it. Plus I've always thought Zack Snyder was a poor director ( I wasn't thrilled when he was announced a few years ago.)
 
Am with @Mr. Pole in being bored with all the comic book superhero films. BvS just never appealed. It always felt like a cluster**** of a film, and to me Superman is such an outdated character. And Deadpool was just a smug, sexist mess of a film IMO.

High Rise is an interesting film. I like the director, and the story has poterntial, but I have heard some neagtive thoughts on it, saying that its just like the modern day Clockwork Orange, and that you can't really do that film in 2016.

Yeah I always have felt that Snyder was a hack. He often goes for the cheap visual thrills and is very poor at storytelling or character growth.
 
As a Superman fan I feel the need to defend him after that comment because I think he can be amazing when written by the right person. Maybe people just don't understand him and it's a shame. No one involved in that movie certainly did.

And yeah Snyder has the mentality of "oh this will be cool, lets write any excuse for it so I can do this shot."

Surely the casting is important also. I tend to think that Reeves was the perfect supermanKent, as he bought a more human, and nerdy element to roles. They've just for the genetic buff types with the recent casting.
 
Oh it is, but I actually think Cavill in interviews seems like a good choice. The videos of him smiling and stuff make him seem perfect, but he was written and directed to sulk the entire time. That's just the tip of the iceberg of course.
 
Henry Cavill is good looking, but he lacks the on-screen charisma of Christopher Reeve IMO.
 
Civil War was very good btw. Just as much Iron Man 4 and Avengers 3 as it is Cap 3 and that kind makes it feel more like the next ep of a TV show at this point (this is #13) it was very enjoyable and the new characters were all good fun.

Me and a friend made a point of recording a review right after, but I was so tired at that point I fell asleep whilst editing haha.

Cool. We see it tonight, I've not been this excited since... well.... Thor:The Dark World! 😀
 
He was so amazing, because you genuinely believed he could be Clark Kent and Superman. HC is an ok actor, but I don't believe him as either Clark or Supes. Christopher Reeve could be emotional and vulnerable, as well as strong and invincible and you believed it all.

Ok, so the later films were duff, but I saw Superman on TV a few weeks back and I was still so in awe of CR and what he brought to that role. It reminded me of the first time I saw the movie, as a kid, and watching a man fly and thinking it was just the most awesome thing in the world.

Most actors are adequate, some are good, a few are great but one or two are iconic.
