FINAL EPISODES OF 'DRIVE' AIR ON FOX ON 4th OF JULY

THE SKINNY: DRIVE, the cool show from former FIREFLY co-creator Tim Minear burns off its remaining episodes after being prematurely canceled in April.

However, one interesting thing about their announcement of the series remaining two episodes debuting on July 4 is that they're referring to the last episode as "SEASON FINALE," not "SERIES FINALE."

Not that there's hope for the series, but the small group of avid watchers, can certainly dream ...

What sucks is that the 4th of July is TV's least watched night of the year, I heard. I'll most likely watch these two episodes, even though I know it's gonna rip open wounds again and *then* end on a big fat cliffhanger. *sigh*
 
[Whedonesque] Fox changes airdate for last two episodes of Drive.

The network will now air the episodes of Nathan Fillion's short-lived series on Friday, July 13, back-to-back starting at 8pm (eastern)/7pm (central).

How ironic that FOX showed the movie Anger Management instead of the final two Drive episodes. Wonder how many people tuned in to watch or set the VCR only to find this movie in it's place?
 
[Whedonesque] Drive no longer.

FOX removes the air dates for the final episodes of Drive, so Friday the 13th wasn't lucky after all. So the final episodes produced won't air.

Well CBS changed their mind about Jericho when they got over 20 tons of peanuts sent to them. Wonder how hard it would be to send 1 ton of ridilin to the FOX execs??? These execs have the attention span of a gnat and are more nervous then a long tailed cat in a rocking chair showroom!
No wonder it's hard to give this network respect! If it wasn't for NASCAR, baseball and the NFL who would watch this screwed up network that pulls shows then toys with the idea of running the un-aired episodes?
Here's an idea for them why not put an episode of Drive in place of On the Lot and see which show gets you better numbers...oh wait the almighty Spielberg is a producer of that show so FOX has to kiss his arse and leave this lame show on the air.
 
Fox doesn't have a reputation of bowing to fan pressure. Wonderfalls, and Angel especially, both had impressive fan revolts. Fox was deaf to them. Family Guy was brought back, but they say that was because of good DVD sales. Personally I think it may have had more to do with a change in the power structure, but either way, it doesn't matter, Drive won't get a DVD.

This is why I think corporations shouldn't run the culture. The people lose access to the art. One can only hope the new technology will over up a better way of doing things. This is why I think file sharing is the best form of protest. It forces new business models on an archaic and useless system.
 
For what it's worth I've been working on an interview with Tim and Craig Silverstein over the last few days. Quite a lot of info about what would have happened had the show continued.

Hey, is it too late to request a question? Do content creators ever consider the possibility of using the internet. For example in this case would they ever simply post the final 2 somewhere? Do they ever get pissed off, and just want to leak stuff? Do they ever consider the possibility of using the internet to provide content independent of the studio system. For example I'd pay money to see an internet Whedonverse channel, and I'd buy DVDs and merchandise from it.

Just for the record, FOX has nothing to do with Angel. They didn't cancel it.

I totally agree on your second statement though.

It's never going to happen, but I wish the broadcast networks - at least ONE - would care just as much about quality as it did ratings and try to give its best shows a real, fighting chance. If you force quality on people long enough, sooner or later they have to give in. 🙂
 
Oops. There goes me typing without thinking again. The WB cancelled Angel of course. How could I Boo Boo that. I used to belong to the WB Angel board. I have a WB Angel banner EDB made for me back in the time. In fact, look, here it is...

What can I say. Duh... I'm thinking maybe the WB and Fox were both filed under "Networks that suck" in my cluttered brain, and they got mooshed together.

Nevertheless I stand by my main point there have been bring back such and such a show campaigns for Fox, and they didn't listen.

I just got the answers back last night, but judging by what happened with The Inside I think Tim definitely gets annoyed when no one sees stuff.

CS: One version was a young, hot, sociopath to be played by Eliza Dushku. Although the image of a half-paralyzed guy, driving the killer truck using specialized hand controls was pretty hard to resist.

How could anyone, but a monkey not get the idea that was going to be intense, and attract an audience.

The whole bit about the sponsors would have been great. We could have had some great message board speculations about all that once it was revealed.
 
Eliza Dushku and Drive?! WHAT?! AHHH. I thought I was over Drive finally and now I am more heartbroken than before. This show would have been amazing. If I was a high-ranking FOX network exec I would kill all the other execs if I had to to keep this baby on.

In my fantasy world, Drive, The Inside, and Wonderfalls are all not-canceled and living a happy life on Fox. 🙂
 
Here's what they're saying now.

Instead, the episodes will be streamed on FOX's MySpace page, where it has the potential to be seen by tens, maybe hundreds of people. Starting this Monday, http://myspace.com/fox will play host to the last two of the six total episodes that were ever made. Since the creators had no idea of their show's staus when making the episodes, it's probably unlikely that the result of the illegal, cross-country road race depicted in the series will be revealed.
