Upgrade in Progress

I have a planned upgrade scheduled for this week sometime. I'll try to keep downtime to a minimum, but this is a pretty big one with some new features added. So I'd like to ask - in the interest of me keeping the board open for posting as much as possible throughout the process - for some patience as me and the staff decide exactly how to best use the new features and get everything set up.

Like I said, I hope it will only cause the board to be down for a half hour or so, but this will help us keep things running smoothely here. Thanks for your understanding!

So like I said, I wanted to keep the board closed for the shortest possible time. So there are still some things I have to do before the upgrade is finished. So please bear with us until we can get everything sorted 🙂

Okay, I believe I have most of the old stuff running fine. There is a broken image on the Profile page that I am still trying to get to the bottom of, but everything else should be working properly.

There are a few features that the staff and I still need to talk about how best to use them, but I will update here as they are enabled.

Some new features are available with this upgrade (I will be adding to this list as things are added):

Thread Tagging

You can now add tags to threads. From vbulletin: "Any users who then click on these tags will not only find all threads that have the same tag as the one clicked, but will also contribute to the building of a search tag cloud, which gives users a quick guide as to what has been searched for recently and most frequently."


New Buddy List/Social Networking Feature

The profile pages have been revamped, and you can leave public messages on each other's profiles. Also you can request that your buddies confirm that you are friends, and confirmed friends are shown publicly on the profile.


Inline Editing of Profile Field Values

You can now edit your profile directly from the profile page, without having to go to the Edit Profile page. Which has been renamed "Edit your Details" for some reason.


Attachment Viewing Lightbox

Attachments now open in a lightbox on top of the thread you're viewing. If you click on it again it will open it in a new window as before.


Social Bookmarking of Threads

I don't really use these, but you'll see the box for Bookmarks when you open a thread.

2 small additions:

You can now search the member list from the Search dropdown in the toolbar.

Also, username changes are tracked in a seperate tab in the user profile page (changes starting from the upgrade).

You can also now report a PM the same way you can report a post. 🙂
